Skaggs—Darin J. Skaggs, 31, of Pendleton, OR, formerly of Heppner, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2017 at Seattle, WA. He was born May 14, 1985 at Heppner. Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Heppner Masonic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Darin Skaggs Memorial Fund c/o any Bank of Eastern Oregon branch. A complete obituary will follow in next week’s Ga- zette-Times. Rea named Neighborhood Center board president The Neighborhood Center of South Morrow County recently nominated Leann Rea as the new board president. Barb Orwick, who pre- viously held the position as president for two terms, serves as the new vice pres- ident. Judy Cowett will carry out her last term as the secretary of the board. The Neighborhood Center assists the low in- come of South Morrow County with once-a-year utility and rental assistance. The thrift store is dependent on community donations of household items, cloth- ing and furniture in good condition. From what is sold in the thrift store, groceries cost- ing up to $1,000 a month are distributed to those who need food assistance. The profits from the monthly $15 bag sale, held the first Wednesday of every month, help fund the monthly gro- cery cost of the pantry. The sales from donated items make it possible to assist the 70-plus families in Hep- pner, Lexington, Ione and Hardman. Donations of canned food and paper or plastic bags are always ap- preciated. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Saturday, February 18, at 2 p.m. at Sunset Hills Cemetery, Umatilla, OR. He was born April 12, 1926 in Texline, TX and was raised by his grand- mother Suella Stewart. Forced to leave the Texas panhandle by the Great Depression, they joined the rest of the Stewart fam- ily, who had gone ahead to Dayton, OR. Troy grew up with the Stewart boys, Bill, Dub, Charley, Jack and Tom, who all mutually considered themselves as brothers.
