Engagements Rauch, Jones plan July wedding Obituaries Gail Elaine Burkenbine Gail Elaine Burken- bine, 77, passed away peacefully at her home in Walla Walla, WA on Janu- ary 26, 2017, surrounded by her two loving daughters and beloved son-in-law. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 4, at 1 p.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church in Hep- pner. She was born May 19, 1939 in Hillsboro, OR to Bosko Bugarsky and Doro- thy (Matteson) Bugarsky. She soon moved to Pend- leton where she lived until she graduated from Pendle- ton High School. She married Reese For- rest “Forrie” Burkenbine on June 16, 1957 in Heppner, where they lived until 2013, when they relocated to Walla Walla. They owned Central Market in Heppner from 1975 until their retire- ment in 1999. Gail and Forrie loved going to Ajo, AZ for the winters and spent summers in Heppner. Gail was a member of the Ajo Quilt Guild as well as the Walla Walla Quilt Guild. She was active in the Lions Club in Ajo and Heppner, as well as other community service- based organizations over the years. She also enjoyed volunteering for the food pantry and at the Walla Walla Senior Center. She is survived by daughters, Lisa (Paul) Leonard of Walla Walla and Connie LaFarge of Sa- lem, OR; granddaughters, Jennifer Hammons, Monica Madsen, Stephanie Burken- bine, Samantha Burken- bine, Amy McRoberts Rup- now, Amanda Heimbigner, Sara Pinkerton and Ally- son Wise; and eight great- grandchildren. Her sweetheart Forrie predeceased her in 2014, and her son Allen in 2015. A funeral mass was held Sunday, January 29, at 1 p.m. at the Arlington Grade School gymnasium. Concluding service and burial followed at the Arlington Cemetery. He was born February 16, 1947, at Pendleton, OR, the son of Raymond John and Francis Geraldine Healy Gronquist. Dennis attended Riverside High School where he met his soon-to-be wife, Penelope Louise Fossey. Dennis and Penny were married on June 4, 1966, at Hermiston, and the couple had two children, Megan Gronquist Proctor and Kelly Gron- quist. Dennis ran the Texaco Station in Arlington for many years, but was always active in local politics. As Arlington’s mayor he was instrumental in siting Co- lumbia Ridge Landfill, which today employs 70 people. During his time as mayor he worked closely with the Gilliam County Court. Following his stint as mayor, Dennis became a commissioner on the Gil- liam South Court on which he served for nearly 20 years until his death.
