Sweeney Mortuary of Heppner is in charge of ar- rangements. Lois Key Hunt Lois Key Hunt, 85, formerly of Lexington, died Sunday, August 14, 2016 at her home in Hermiston. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 27, at 11 a.m. at the United Meth- odist Church in Heppner. Private family committal service will be held at the Lexington Cemetery. She was born July 27, 1931 at Hardman, OR, the daughter of John and Opal Bennett Key. Lois grew up in the nearby town of Hep- pner and was a graduate of Heppner High School, class of 1949. She held nu- merous jobs in high school through adulthood. These jobs included working at the swimming pool, movie theater, hospital, bookkeep- er at Padberg’s Machinery, bus driver for the school district, and also serving on the Lexington election board. In the fall of 1949 at the age of 18, Lois eloped with Arthur Dean Hunt and was married in Twin Falls, ID on November 7, 1949. After a short time living in Hep- pner, Lois and Dean settled in Lexington, where Dean was a wheat farmer and the two remained happily mar- ried until his death in 2007 after 58 years of marriage. In married life Dean and Lois ran the farm and raised two children. When not maintaining the household, making har- vest lunches, or delivering messages to the ranch, Lois was a bridge instructor for BMCC and an avid player. She was also active in East- ern Star and was a grand representative for Tennes- see and held the position of worthy matron. When Lois was 16 she joined the Heppner First United Methodist Church, where she was a member for 69 years.
