COUNTY OFFICES
-Continued from PAGE ONE county facilities,” county writing more stories about
need to spend it on rolling
stock and capital improve-
ments,” she said.
Huwe said Irrigon is
growing and showing more
community pride and, al-
though she praised Board-
man for providing all the
economic growth in the
county, now is not the time
to take services away from
Irrigon.
“I am very concerned
about Irrigon losing these
facilities,” she told the
court.
She said Irrigon is
already a bedroom com-
munity, but the new high
school helped restore a lot
of the city’s sense of pride
and unity. She pointed out
that with Irrigon’s new
parks, new library and high
school people are starting
to take ownership in the
community.
“Please don’t take that
away from us,” she urged.
“We are not anywhere
close to making a decision.
We know it is important
for communities to have
judge Terry Tallman said.
He said more study was
needed and the costs better
examined, saying, “we are
going to have a very good
discussion on this.”
There was also discus-
sion on whether the new
county court, which takes
over in January and will
have two new members,
should make the decision
on new facilities and where
they should be located.
However, no decision was
made on that.
In other business at the
Aug. 3 meeting the court
approved a new fee sched-
ule for the county, covering
everything from what a
copy of the budget costs to
code enforcement fees.
The court also heard
from county planner Carla
McLane, who said she had
received two resignations
from the planning com-
mission, David Sykes, who
is also chairman, and Me-
lissa Lindsay. Sykes said
he was resigning because
the newspaper planned on
the planning commission
and county court, and he
did not want there to be a
conflict of interest. Lindsay
was elected to the county
court in the last election,
so she also cannot serve on
the planning commission.
All planning commission
decisions go to the court
for final approval. The res-
ignations both take affect
following the October plan-
ning commission meeting.
McLane also said that
the planning commission
will be holding a work
session Aug. 30 at the Bar-
tholomew Building in Hep-
pner to discuss the Farm
and Forest Model Code
Update.
In other business the
court approved a request
by the Morrow County
Sheriff ’s Department to
purchase 20 sets of updated
body armor protection.
The cost for the level-four
tactical protection is $8,500
total; however, the body
armor can withstand an AR
rifle bullet.
