With 7,500 in attendance they competed in Technology Problem Solving creating a wind turbine, Structural Design and Engineering involving a light rail bridge section, and On Demand Video with a jungle theme, writing a script, filming and editing all within 48 hours. The youth not only rep- resented Heppner but also the state of Oregon as state officers. When interviewed after the conference, the young men had positive feedback. “I am grateful for the opportunity to practice lead- ership and public speaking, getting to address 7,500 people,” said Kai Arbogast, while Will Lutcher said the best part was “Meeting and networking with other TSA members from across the Nation.” Daichi Walters said, “It was a great privilege to learn about the city of Nashville and the culture.” Bryan Fowler was ap- parently a fan of southern cooking, saying he liked “Getting to eat at famous restaurants and experienc- ing the world’s second- hottest hot sauce.” The students did get to experience many attractions beyond the competitions, including TSA general ses- sions, national business meeting, the Grand Ole Opry, an 1800s planta- tion and the old downtown Nashville, along with a ma- jor league baseball game. Heppner received an award for Chapter of Ex- cellence at the conference. The support of Morrow County School District and the community of Heppner made the trip possible.
