The board also adopted
a resolution imposing the
tax at the rate of $4.0342
per $1,000 assessed value
for the permanent tax rate,
$1.0000 per $1,000 as-
sessed value for the local

obligation bonds.
In other business, the
board:
-learned from Dirksen
that the district has ordered
the following items this
summer as a result of tech
grants: 360 Chromebooks,
97 iPads, 13 Chromebook
carts, four Chromebook
one 70-inch ActivPanel
Touch tv, two 3-D printers,
one classroom instruction
recording set, a Quadcopter
class kit, two virtual weld-
ers and camera equipment
for yearbook.
-approved a license
agreement with the Morrow
County Uniied Recreation
District. Dirksen commend-
ed MCURD for providing
extra-curricular cultural and
recreational activities for
district students and com-
munity events.
-learned from Dirk-
sen that the school district
enabled students to earn
1,816 college credits while
attending high school for
the 2015-16 school year.
He noted that the program
has come a long way since
initiating the program in
2011-12, during which stu-
dents earned 396 college
credits.
-heard from Dirksen that
MCSD high school seniors
were awarded $1,458,000
in scholarships this year
as follows: Heppner High
School-$185,000, Irrigon
High School-$868,000,
Boardman High
School-$405,000.
-heard a report from
Assistant Superintendent

Dirksen concerning early
education, speciically four-
year-olds. Dirksen said that
Headstart provides edu-
cational opportunities for
children based on inancial
data, the district wants “all
kids to have that opportu-
nity.” Mendoza said that
while students entering
kindergarten in Morrow
County schools test below
state and other school aver-
ages, data shows that they
have caught up or exceeded
averages by the third grade.
-approved a 10 cent
increase in lunch prices
as follows: elementa-
ry-$2.45-$2.55, junior/
senior high-$2.70-$2.80,
adult lunch-$3.25-$3.35,
milk-.50 cents-.60 cents.
There were no price in-
creases for reduced price
lunches, elementary break-
fasts at $1.00, junior/senior
high school breakfasts at
$1.25 and reduced price
breakfasts. The district
was required to increase
the prices by the “Healthy
Hunger-Free Food Act” to
meet federal equity pricing
requirements and to offset
continuing increases in the
cost of food.
-learned of a work ses-
sion on school security
in August and another in
October. Dirksen said that
the schools will be working
together with law enforce-
ment so that “when issues
arise, we’re all on the same
page.”

BAN
Effective June 15, 2016, the Fire Chief
of the City of Heppner is imposing a
CLOSED SEASON for open burning
based on local fire safety concerns.
This burning ban is for the City of Heppner.
A reminder that open burning also
includes a “burn barrel.”
The closed season will remain in effect
until further notice this fall as per ORS 478.960.
