Spray Rodeo, half marathon back this
weekend
The Spray Rodeo is
back for its 69 th year this
weekend, May 28-29, while
the 52 nd annual Eastern
Oregon Half Marathon will
take place May 28.
The Eastern Oregon
Half Marathon, the longest-
running in the state, is a
13.2 mile run from Service
Creek to Spray. The run
will start at 8 a.m. Saturday
morning.
Rodeo action begins
with slack on Friday start-
ing at 11 a.m. No admission
is charged for slack, and
concessions will be avail-
able.
Saturday is Tough
Enough to Wear Pink Day
at the rodeo, with all of
the proceeds going to St.
Charles Medical Center for
breast cancer research.
Both Saturday and Sun-
day will start off with a
“Buckeroo Breakfast” at
the school cafeteria from
early morning to 11 a.m.,
prepared by the Spray High
School athletic programs.
The parade on Saturday
will begin at 11 a.m. at the
old Spray General Store
area and will be led by
Queen Bella Yanes from
Corvallis. This year for the
first time there will be a
band from the Sandstone
Middle School in Hermis-
ton. Grand marshals will
be the Ellen Geissel Family.
The rodeo will begin
with mutton busting at
12:15 p.m., followed by the
grand entry at 1 p.m. A new
grandstand has been built
with wheel chair assessable
seating. The rodeo will in-
clude all major events and
ranch bronc riding. There
will also be kids’, women’s
and men’s quarter-mile
races each day.
Sheriff’s Report
January 26: -Morrow
County Sheriff ’s Office
served an Irrigon Justice
Court warrant to Douglas
C. Robertson, 45, for fail-
ure to appear on failure to
appear.
-A female in Irrigon
reported that her daughter
had been waiting for her
to pick her up at school the
week before when a male
went up to her and offered
her a ride. The male was
white and young. When the
daughter said no, the male
drove off and didn’t harass
her. The caller requested
contact.
-A caller stated that a
subject was just outside
Heppner Shell with a pistol
stuffed in his pants. There
were no threats and no one
around him. He went into
the store and then left.
-MCSO took an in-
vestigation a complaint of
elder abuse/neglect outside
of Heppner.
-An MCSO deputy ad-
vised he was out with a ve-
hicle parked on the shoulder
of an intersection in Board-
man with the hazard lights
on. The registered owner of
the vehicle was contacted
and advised he would be
making some calls to ind
out why it was there. The
owner was advised to notify
local law enforcement if
he discovered it had been
stolen.
January 28: -A person
in Boardman reported that
their neighbor’s music was
thumping. The caller had
three sick kids and wanted
the music turned down.
Boardman Police Dept.
responded.
-A female reported that
her daughter was suicidal;
the caller was en route
from Hermiston to Irrigon
and would like a deputy to
check on her.

-A student in Heppner
reported a safety concern at
the residence. The student
stated that he was involved
in an altercation with his
stepfather last night.
-MCSO reports that
Lawrence Allen Perrin,
39, was lodged at Umatilla
County Jail with a detention
warrant placed, no bail, for
parole violation.
-A caller in Ione re-
ported two male subjects
walking around behind the
school and by the bus barns.
She advised she could hear
their voices but didn’t know
who they were. The caller
requested that the school

Student Exchange Pro-
grams (ASSE), in coopera-
tion with local high schools,

lies to host boys and girls
between the ages of 15 to
18 from a variety of coun-

welcome these students into
their family, not as a guest,
but as a family member,
giving everyone involved

The exchange students
have pocket money for
personal expenses and full
health, accident and liabili-
ty insurance. ASSE students
are selected based on aca-
demics and personality, and
host families can choose
their student from a wide
variety of backgrounds,
countries and personal in-
