Bicyclists get special treat at
Heppner stopover
The bicycle riders starting from Springield, OR and stopping in Heppner for an over-
night started their morning ride—after a quick, early breakfast—by posing on the shamrock
before they started pedaling on to Wildhorse Resort and Casino on part of our Blue Mountain
Century Scenic Bikeway to attend the Governor’s Conference on Tourism.
The guests had dinner Thursday night with entertainment by our own Joe Lindsay, who
wrote a song about the bike riders. The riders liked the song so much, they even took a video,
hoping to share it at the conference.
Many of the cyclists commented how nice and friendly the community was. Heppner
Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sheryll Bates them that “if we can get visitors
to come and visit and see for themselves, we can usually count on them coming back again
sometime and enjoying our beautiful surroundings and community.” -Photo by David Sykes

2016 EO Walk MS a success
Forty-seven people turned out for this year’s EO Walk MS, which organizers hailed as a suc-
cess. –Photo by David Sykes
Forty-six walkers and
one runner turned out last
weekend for the 18 th annual
Eastern Oregon Walk MS.
Despite what seemed
to be a lower-than-normal
turnout, walk committee
co-chair Barb Orwick re-
ported that the event has
raised a record amount of
$13,444 so far, with money
continuing to come in.
The event was also at-
tended by Kim Southworth,
MSSMC-Oregon Chapter.
Kim told the walkers about
a new drug, ocrelizumab,
which is the irst drug to
be approved for Progres-
sive MS which could be
available in 2017. She also
congratulated everyone on
the continued success of the
EO walk in Heppner.
Volunteers made sure
the walkers and runners
were well-fed with sand-
wiches, fruit and beverages.
Local sponsors for the
walk this year were Com-
munity Bank, Bank of EO,
Gregory Smith & Compa-
ny, Miller & Sons, MCGG,
Devin Oil, Inc., Company
Frederickson Farming,
LLC, All Saints Episcopal
and Hope Lutheran Church.
Event organizers say they
were pleased with the turn-
out and enthusiasm of this
year’s event.
“Without the support of
our committee, volunteers,
those who donated and all
the participants of the walk/
run, we could not have this
special event,” commented
Orwick. “It was a good
year.”
