Carl W. Thorpe
Carl W. Thorpe, 84,
passed away on Tuesday,
March 15, 2016 having
lived a very active and long
life. A graveside service
was held Sunday, March
20, at 2 p.m. at the Heppner
Masonic Cemetery.
He was born in Hep-
pner on October 10, 1931,
the son of Eddie R. and Reta
M. Crawford Thorpe. Carl
attended Heppner schools,
where he graduated from
high school. He considered
Heppner his home for the
past 84 years.
Carl worked his ranch/
farm, built houses and cov-
ered hundreds of thousands
of miles while driving log-
ging trucks over the years.

Heppner. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, March 29,
at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Heppner. A
reception will follow at St. Patrick’s parish hall. Graveside
service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, at St.
Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Condon. A complete obitu-
ary will follow in next week’s Heppner Gazette-Times.

ODFW rolls out free family ishing events in 2016

Hermiston’s McNary Chan-
nel Ponds.
Locally, a free ishing
derby is planned for June 4
from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at
Cutsforth Pond. Ukiah will
have an event the same day
at Twin Pond from 7 a.m.
to noon.
Other area fishing
events include May 14 from
10 a.m. to noon at McNary
Channel Ponds and July 9
from 9 a.m. to noon at Ju-
bilee Lake, Pendleton.
Children ages 11 years
old and younger can fish
$10 for 12- to 17-year-olds.
Licenses can be purchased
at ODFW’s Online License
Sales page or from any
ODFW ield ofice or retail
license outlet. Licenses will
not be sold at the event.
Additional free fish-
ing opportunities will take
place on June 4-5 during
“Free Fishing Weekend.”
That weekend ODFW will
waive all fishing license
fees for anglers of all ages.
These events are typi-
cally stocked in advance
with a lot of ish. On top
of that, ODFW provides
loaner rods, reels, tackle
and bait, along with help-
ful tips from experienced
angling instructors.
