At the district’s previ-
ous meeting, the board
approved a pre-Labor Day
start for the 2016-17 school
year with staff in-service
beginning Aug. 22, stu-
dents beginning Aug. 29,
Christmas break from Dec.
16-Jan. 1, with school re-
suming Jan. 2, the end of
the irst semester Jan. 12,
spring break from March
27-31 and students’ last day
June 8.

Heppner Elementary held its annual spring dance last week.

The Heppner Elemen-
tary Parent Teacher Club
hosted the annual school
dance on March 10. More
than 200 students and their
families were able to dance
the night away to music by
Desert Sounds. Mrs. Gentry
spent two weeks teaching
the students several dances,
including the swing and box
step, and a few contests
were held that evening.
Baskets and other items
were rafled off. Donations
to the events were made by
Bank of Eastern Oregon,
Community Bank, Morrow
County Grain Growers,
Wheatland Insurance, Wil-
low Creek Terrace, HES
teachers, Ken and Carri
Grieb, Nichole and Cody
High, Krystal Seitz, Ann
Jones, Darcee and Slater
Mitchell, Toni and Russ
Nichols, Jesse Rodriguez,
Julia and Tripp Finch, and
Colin and Erin Anderson.
Students say they are
already looking forward to
next year’s dance.
