The Heppner Mustang
boys’ basketball team split
its Columbia Basin Confer-
ence games this past week-
end. The Mustangs (17-3,
7-2) lost a close game at
Weston-McEwen 53-51,
but then bounced back to
defeat the Culver Bulldogs
59-25.
A slow start in the game
with Weston-McEwen saw
the Mustangs trailing at the
end of the irst quarter by
a score of 17-10. Heppner
then turned it around and
outscored the TigerScots
22-11 in the second quarter
and led the game 32-28 at
halftime. A back-and-fourth
third quarter ended up with
the teams tied at 43-43. The
inal quarter of the game
saw both teams take the
lead at one time or another.
Heppner led by two points
with just seconds left in
the game when a Weston-
McEwen player banked in
a three-point shot to give
them the lead by one. The
Mustangs were able to push
the ball up the court and
get a shot off to take the
lead, but the ball trickled
off the rim. Heppner then
fouled a TigerScot player
and he made one of two
free-throws to make the
inal score 53-51.
Logan Grieb led the
Mustangs in scoring with
17. He also dished out 4
assists and had 4 rebounds
in the game. Patrick Collins
was next with 12 points,
