For Obituaries: Obituaries are published in the Heppner GT at no charge and are edited to
meet news guidelines. Families wishing to include information not included in the guidelines
or who wish to have the obituary written in a certain way must purchase advertising space
for the obituary.
For Letters to the Editor: Letters to the Editor MUST be signed by the author. The Heppner
GT will not publish unsigned letters. All letters MUST include the author’s address and phone
number for use by the GT ofice. The GT reserves the right to edit letters. The GT is not
responsible for accuracy of statements made in letters. Any letters expressing thanks will
be placed in the classiieds under “Card of Thanks” at a cost of $10.

CAPECO Energy Assistance will be at the Neighbor-
hood Center Jan. 25 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Appointments
are for the low-income general public under the age of
60. Call the Pendleton ofice at 1-800-752-1139 to make
an appointment.
Applicants must bring their most recent power bill,
Social Security cards for all in household, driver’s license
or ID for all 18 and older in household, and income veri-
ication for the last 30 days. The account holder must be
present to sign the energy assistance application.

Jack Mounts
Jack Mounts, 92, of
Gresham, OR died Monday,
January 11, 2016 at a care
facility in The Dalles, OR.
A graveside service with
military honors will be held
on Saturday, January 16, at
11 a.m. at the Lexington
Cemetery.
He was born December
27, 1924 at San Pedro, CA,
the son of Samuel and Alice
Kandie Mounts. He was
raised and attended school
at San Pedro, where he
graduated from high school.
In 1942 Jack entered the
United States Coast Guard,
serving in Amchitka, Tara-
wa, Eniwetok and Saipan,
all in the Paciic Ocean; he
was honorably discharged
in 1945. He then attended
Whittier College and the
University of California,
Berkeley, graduating in
1950.
On April 22, 1956 he
married Audrey Majeske at
Lexington, OR. The couple
lived in California, Colo-
rado, Louisiana, and Wash-
ington, as well as Heppner,
Maupin and Portland, Or-
egon. Jack worked for the
U.S. Forest Service from
1950 until his retirement
in 1978.
Jack loved golf and
played in all kinds of weath-
er until age 82. He also
enjoyed boating, camping,
and fishing with his son
and traveling with his wife,
Audrey, who preceded him
in death in 2013. He was
a Boy Scout Leader and
was active in PTA, Lions
Club, American Legion,
Elks Lodge, and the Izaak
Walton League.
He is survived by his
son Stephen, a grandson

Charles J. Daly, 86,
of Heppner died Saturday,
January 16, 2016 due to
complications from pneu-
monia. Recitation of the
Holy Rosary will be held
on Saturday, January 23,
beginning at 10 a.m. at St
Patrick’s Catholic Church
in Heppner. Funeral Mass
will follow at 11 a.m.
Charlie was the son
of pioneer settlers, born in
Heppner on December 9,
1929, to James and Kate
(McDevitt) Daly. Jim and
Kate had emigrated from
Ireland to Morrow County,
where Jim had proved up
on a homestead in Newman
Canyon, a branch of Little
Buttercreek.
Charlie and his sis-
ters grew up on the fam-
ily ranch, and he attended
the Pine City schoolhouse
through seventh grade. The
students were then bused to
Echo, where he graduated
from Echo High School.
Charlie was an accom-
plished athlete, holding
several school records, and
later enjoyed seeing long-

members met Jan. 6 at 7
p.m. and discussed up-
coming activities, as well
as scheduling some new
events for the community.
Saturday, Jan. 30, the
Lexington Grange will host
a fundraiser for Nadine Ball
as she undergoes cancer
treatment. The evening will
include a $5 soup dinner at
5 p.m. with bingo to start
at 6 p.m. All proceeds from
the evening will be donated
to Ball. Donations will be
accepted.
Also coming up is the
Fireman’s Breakfast during
the St. Patrick’s Day week-
end. Lexington Grange
members will be serving up
breakfast starting Saturday,
March 19, at 7 p.m. and will
continue on into the wee
hours of the morning for St.
Patrick’s celebration goers.
The Lexington Grange
is a part of a nationwide,
nonproit fraternal organi-
zation with programs for
family members of all ages.
The Grange organization
has long been a grassroots,
nonpartisan advocate for
agriculture, rural issues and
American values. Commu-
nity Granges like Lexington
Grange serve local needs by
volunteering and making
