The Mustangs (8-0, 4-0) have worked their way up to number two in the latest OSAA 2A state football rankings. Heppner got the ball to start the game. On only the fourth play from scrim- mage, Tommy Bredfield took a handoff and powered in for a touchdown from 11 yards out to make the score 6-0. The Mustang defense then stood strong and forced an Irrigon punt. CJ Kindle fielded the ball and sprinted 75 yards for another Heppner touch- down. On the very next play, Caden Hedman took the handoff and scampered 34 yards for a touchdown. Kaden Corbin took a pitch and raced into the end zone for the two-point conver- sion to make the score 55-0. The dominating Mustang defense forced another Ir- rigon turnover. Grieb inter- cepted a pass and ran it all the way back for a 39-yard touchdown. That made the score 61-0 with a little over a minute left in the third quarter. Corbin ran for 23 yards on two carries and Coby Dougherty had two rushes for one yard in the game. With the running game working so well, Clark only threw the ball five times in the game. He completed one pass for 12 yards to Putman. Overall the Mustangs had 436 yards of total of- fense. They held Irrigon to 165 yards on the night. Heppner had 19 first downs to 10 for Irrigon. On the defensive side of the ball, Putman led the team with 13 tackles and an interception. Col- lins, Murray and Tim Jaca each recorded eight tackles and a quarterback sack in the game. Bredfield and Currin followed with six tackles each and Kindle had five. Steagall had four tackles and Grieb finished with three. Grieb also had two interceptions and ran one back for a touchdown. With two tackles each in the game were Clark, Erickson, Corbin and Tre Cimmiyotti. Finishing the game with one tackle each were Hed- man, Jake Lindsay, Peyton Lehmen, Beau Wolters, Derek Howard, Jacob Wal- lace, Keegan Gibbs and Hunter Nichols.
