Save the date for the HHS Booster Club
steak feed in October
It’s beginning to feel
like fall already with back-
to-school aisles in the stores
and excitement mounting
for the beginning of foot-
ball and other fall sports.
For the Heppner JR/SR
High Booster Club, back-
to-school also brings the
busy task of planning the
annual Booster Club Steak
Feed and Auction.
With that in mind,
the Booster Club just an-
nounced, “Save the date!”
A date has been set for Oct.
10, at the Heppner Elks
Lodge.
“Wonderful donations
have already started to
come in for the live auc-
tion this year. We have an
electric car for kids, a new
Dining in the Garden din-
ner that hasn’t been seen
before, VIP football seat-
ing, and a few fun baskets
already received,” offered
Becky Kindle, the current
Booster Club treasurer.
President Melissa
Lindsay shared, “We are
really excited to be offering
the VIP steak feed dining
tables again this year. This
garnered an exceptional
reception from people last
year and sold out quickly,”
Lindsay also added the
tables are now for sale by
calling 541-256-0366. The

mous donation, the Heppner High School gym floor has re-
ceived some much-needed improvements. –Photo by Mallorie

number of elegant tables
is limited due to space, so
anyone interested in VIP
seating is asked to call
as soon as possible. They
include preferred/reserved
seating, along with spe-
cial décor, two bottles of
wine on each table and
an assigned server for the
meal…no waiting in line.
Also for the VIP tables is
a small appetizer to greet
attendees this year.
“Last year’s attendance
was so amazing, fun and
generous, we have made a
few small changes to better
accommodate the crowd, as
well as make sure there is
plenty of steak for every-
one,” said committee chair
and officer Toni Nichols.
“We can only hope the
community will be able
to attend so strongly again
this year.”
Due to the large turn-
out and generosity of
Heppner and surrounding
communities last year, the
HHS Booster Club was able
to provide funds to every
class, athletic program and
school-organized extra-
curricular organization at
the Heppner JR/SR High
School.
“It was a great year for
us to fund some real needs
from academics and ath-
letics to school sponsored
veterans events and many
things in between,” added
one member.
This year Booster club
members say they are very
excited about their biggest
project. Thanks not only
to their efforts but also
to a generous anonymous
donation targeted specifi-
cally toward gym floor
improvement, the project is
currently underway.
“The upgrade to the
gym floor looks really nice
and we can’t wait to play on
it this year,” said HHS head
basketball coach Jeremy
Rosenbalm. “This will be
really great for the students
and athletes.”
“The Heppner gym
space sees many different
uses in our school and our
community outside of just
sporting events; it is great
to make it something we
can be so proud of,” said
Heppner Athletic Director
Greg Grant.
This year’s auction will
include some special items
directly targeting the com-
pletion of the gym items.
According to the Booster
Club the project is slightly
underfunded to comple-
tion; if anyone is interested
in donating specifically to
this project, please call any
Booster Club officer or Me-
lissa Lindsay directly.

WCVEDG would like
to remind potential home
buyers that there are still
funds available for home
buyers in South Morrow
County.
The way the program
works is that anyone who
has a written agreement to
purchase a home can take
the agreement to Sheryll
Bates at the Heppner Cham-
ber of Commerce next to
city hall, and be put on the
list to receive up to $5,000
in grant money.
The money is put into
escrow and goes toward the
purchase at closing. Farm-
ers Home Administration
(FHA) loans are not eligible
for the grants.
The main stipulation in
the program is if the home
is sold within three years
the buyers agree to pay
WCVEDG back the grant
money.
It was previously re-
ported in the Heppner Ga-
zette-Times that the money
could not be used for pur-
chase of rental units.
This report was incor-
rect. The grant funds can be
used to purchase rentals, or
properties to be turned into
or used as rentals.
