Tailgate Trio in
Heppner Sunday
Tailgate Trio
Summer music returns to Heppner City Park this
Sunday, July 19, from 5 to 7 p.m., featuring The Tailgate
Trio from La Grande.
Three gifted musicians who have played both together
and separately in various configurations for decades came
together as a trio during a wet and windy tailgate party
at EOU last fall.
“We play three much-maligned instruments in the
same band—an accordion, dulcimer and the banjo. None
of us play bagpipes so we added the ukulele in many of
its forms as well,” says Sharon Porter, band member.
The band builds its repertoire of Parisian, Cajun, Irish,
Russian, East European and American folk music partly
around the accordion, which Matt Cooper recently took
up after nearly 50 years as a classical and jazz pianist.
This concert series is sponsored by the Morrow
County Unified Recreation District and facilitated by the
Shared Ministry of Hope Lutheran Church and All Saints
Episcopal Church. Supper, including pulled pork sand-
wiches, will be available for purchase to raise funds for
the Shared Ministry’s mission trip to Haiti in November
(for which there are a few openings; call 541-676-9970
for more information).
