The Lady Mustangs
traveled to Umatilla last
Thursday, where Meranda
Lemmon dominated from
the pitching circle, hurling
her first no hitter in a 13-0
shut-out of the 3A Vikings.
Lemmon kept the Vikings
off balance getting them
to hit. The game saw 12
groundouts, two fly-outs,
and one strike-out. Lem-
mon fielded six of the outs
herself. The victory was the
second of the season for the
Mustangs.
Saturday the Mustangs
faced off at home versus
Culver in a league-splitting
the double-header with the
Bulldogs.
Game one was very
tight, going into extra in-
nings where untimely errors
helped Culver pull off the
victory 2-1.
In game two the Mus-
tangs got their first league
win, topping the Bulldogs
4-1.
Meranda Lemmon
again pitched well, throw-
ing all 16 innings in the day
and giving up only six hits
and zero earned runs.
From the plate the Lady
Mustangs hit the ball hard,
challenging the Culver de-
fense. Onna DeLoach had
two doubles and a single for
the day, while Lemmon had
a double and two singles.
Sydney Qualls slapping
from the left side of the
plate and reached safety
twice, as did Riley Koll-
man.
The Mustangs face
their biggest challenge of
the season this Saturday
at home versus the num-
ber-one team in the state,
Union, at 11 a.m.

Mustang girls battle sickness,
weather to bring home medals
With their team de-
pleted due to sickness, only
three Heppner High School
golfers attended the La
Grande “Girls Only” Golf
Tournament last week.
They had to endure
harsh weather conditions
such as bitter cold, blowing
wind, and even snow flur-
ries several times through-
out the day.
The Mustang golfers
played through it all and
came home with some
awards.
Sophie Grant brought
home the first-place medal
from the tournament as she
shot an 84 on the day to
get the win. Paige Grieb
