Mustangs bring home golf titles
Both Mustang golf
teams won titles at the
Pendleton Country Club
Invitational last week. The
girls’ team shot a 385 to
defeat five other teams that
included Burns, Pendleton
JV, Baker, Enterprise and
La Grande. Their score
was 39 strokes better than
second-place La Grande.
On the boys’ side, the
Mustangs shot a 368 to
beat second-place Wal-
lowa, who scored a 381.
Other boys’ teams who par-
ticipated were Nixiwayya,
Enterprise, Nyssa, Vale and
Imbler.
On the individual side
of things, Sophie Grant was
the tournament medalist for
the girls. Sophie shot an
88 to win the contest and
lead the team. Amanda Rea
finished with a 95 and her
sister Emily Rea recorded
a 96. Paige Grieb finished
at 106 and Maddie Lindsay
came in at 108. Riane Dom-

team on this day.
For the boys, Logan
Grieb took home medalist
honors for the tournament.
Logan shot an 83 on the
day to get the win. John
Propheter played well and
came in with an 89 to finish
third. Jesse Corbin carded a
95, Brian Rill finished with
a 101 and Ross Cutsforth
shot a 103. Tommy Bred-
field served as the alternate
for the team.
The girls’ team will
play at Wildhorse on Mon-
day and then both teams
will play there on Friday in
another large invitational
tournament.
Three-man scramble to benefit
HHS golf
The 19 th annual Hep-
pner High School Three
Man Scramble is set for
Sunday, April 26, at Willow
Creek Country Club. Tee
time is 9 a.m. Lunch will be
served following play.
The event is open to
the first 27 teams to regis-
ter. Cost of the tournament
is $40 per player. First
through third place (net
and gross) prizes will be
awarded, as well as KP and
long putt prizes. Tee prizes
will be given for every hole.
The format will be
three-person scramble us-
ing the Oldsmobile Scoring
Method with a maximum
handicap of 12 per team
allowed.
Mustang softball has rocky start
to league games
The Heppner mustang
softball girls took to the
diamond in Irrigon on Sat-
urday for their first league
games, fielding only nine
players due to some sick-
ness.
All nine players bat-
tled hard and played well
through two tough losses.
Meranda Lemmon and
Jessica Kempkin had two
singles each while Morgan
Correa, Riley Coleman and
Sydney Maben each hit
singles as well in a 4-8 loss
in game one.
In game two, all of
the Mustangs hit the ball
well…unfortunately right
at the Irrigon defense.
Meranda Lemmon took to
the circle to hurl for the
Mustangs for both games
of the day, giving up few
earned runs for a tight battle
in the second game. Morgan
Orem led the hitting with
three singles. Onna Deloach
and Meranda Lemmon each
had two singles. Morgan
Correa, Riley Coleman and
Sydney Maben each had a
single in a heartbreaking
loss that was tied up in the

The Heppner track

cords and outstanding re-
sults were accomplished.
The day started out
with Kaden Clark earn-
ing second place in the
long jump with a jump
of 19’4”. This is a three-
inch improvement from the
meet the week before. Len
Havermeier also made the
finals with a jump of 17’
3.75”, a 10” improvement
from the previous week.
Kelly Wilson went on
to win the girls’ triple jump
with a jump of 30’6”, and
also placed 8 th in the shot
put with a throw of 27’7”.
Jeremiah Petzoldt made
the finals in the javelin with
a throw of 126’ 9”.
In the high jump, sib-
lings Kaelyn Lindsay and
Alex Lindsay earned points
by placing 4 th and 3 rd , re-
spectively. Kaelyn Jumped
4’6”, while Alex jumped
5’4”. Len Havermeier also
jumped 5’4”, and earned the
4 th place spot for the boys.
The running events
kicked off with the 4x100
meter relay, where Alex
Lindsay, Len Havermeier,
Kaden Clark and Jacob
Moses finished 3 rd with
a time of 47.9 seconds.
Kaden Clark also made a

fifth inning until Irrigon
scored in the bottom of the
seventh to win 9-8.
The losses came on
the heels of an 8-14 loss at
home last Tuesday.
The Mustangs have a
long road trip for a double-
header in Burns this Satur-
day at 1 p.m.

Skyler Palmer held a de-
manding lead during his
heat in the 800M dash and
finished second overall with
a time of 2:19.68.
