GT will not publish unsigned letters. All letters MUST include the author’s address and phone

Georgia “Helen” Trox-
ell, 69, passed away on
March 5, 2015 in Spokane,
WA from small cell lung
cancer. She will be buried
in the Heppner Cemetery
near her parents.
Helen was born Sep-
tember 24, 1945 to Howard
R. and Harriet H. Morgan
Evans in Prairie City, OR.
She was raised on the fam-
ily ranch in Kaler Basin
near Spray, OR and at-
tended Spray High School.
In 1961 she married Robert
D. Troxell. They had two
children, Evan and Marsha.
They divorced in 1979.
She lived in several
places and worked as a
seamstress. Then, in 1993,
she moved to Heppner and
opened in her own custom
sewing and alteration busi-
ness, “Just Sew.” In 2010
she retired and in 2012 she
moved to Spokane, WA to
be closer to her sister.
Helen enjoyed reading,
baking bread, watching
sports on TV and talking
with her customers.
She was preceded in
death by her parents.
She is survived by her

Europe, and Mexico. Their
fondest trip was a cruise to
the Caribbean and Pana-
ma Canal with family and
friends. Lenna and Glenn
moved to Bend in the fall of

four great-grandchildren.
She will be missed by fam-

She is survived by chil-
dren Judy (Gordon) Knight
and Mike Smith; grandchil-
dren Kimberle Wright (Bil-
ly McCoy), Nance Riper
and Brent (Nadia) Wright;
great-grandchildren Brien-
na, Hailey, Ellie, Matthew,
Michael and Thomas; and
numerous great-nieces and
nephews.

Janet Greenup, representing the cast of “A Thought of Hope,”
presents Ashley Lindsay, chairman of the St. Patrick’s Parish
Hall restoration project, with a check in the amount of $1,179,
the combined total for the two presentations of Father Con-
don’s play. A sum of $333 came from the presentation in Ione
and $846 from the presentation in Heppner. “St Patrick’s would
like to greatly express their appreciation to the community for
their support of the play and also to the cast of the play for
choosing them as the charity to donate the proceeds to,” said

Alberta “Bert” Jo-
hannes, 96, formerly of
Heppner, died Tuesday,
December 9, 2014 at a
care facility in Hermiston.
A memorial graveside ser-
vice will be held 11 a.m.
Wednesday, March 18, at
the Heppner Masonic Cem-
etery in Heppner.
She was born Novem-
ber 16, 1918, at Lawrence,
WI, the daughter of Thomas
and Mary Lan Laren Detrie.
Bert enjoyed garden-
ing, bingo and coffee in the
mornings with her friends,
and partaking of all of the
town events. When she was
younger she would take
long road trips to Wisconsin
once a year to visit family
members. She was a mem-
ber of St. Patrick’s Catholic
Church and rarely missed
church.
Survivors include her
sisters, Evelyn Contezac
and husband Mickel, and
Bernice Philipsen; 10
grandchildren; and 13
great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death
were her daughters, Donna
Mae Davis and Joy Wells,
and a grandchild, Chriss
Davis.

Jean Marie Gilliam, 91,
of Condon died, Saturday,
March 14, 2015 at Summit
Springs Village Memory
Care, Condon, OR. Mass
of Christian Burial will be
held at 10 a.m. on Satur-
day, March 21, at St. John
Catholic Church in Con-
don. Burial will follow the
Mass at St. Joseph Catholic
Cemetery in Condon. A ro-
sary will be held on Friday
evening, March 20, at 7:30
p.m. at St. Johns.
The first of two chil-
dren, Jean Marie Cline
was born June 14, 1923 in
Jordan, NY, the daughter
of Charles and Faye Grego
Cline. Jean graduated in
1941 from North High
School in Syracuse, NY.
She later graduated from
business school in 1942.
Jean’s war-time ro-
mance with Louis L Gilliam
culminated in marriage
on April 19, 1947. They
moved to Heppner where
their first daughter, Cheryl
Jean, was born in January
of 1948. Jean and Lou then
moved from Heppner to
Condon when Lou trans-
ferred from the U.S. Forest
Service to the U.S. Depart-
ment of Agriculture, where
he was assigned to serve as
the unit conservationist in
Gilliam County. After mov-
ing to Condon, three more
children were born: Richard
Louis in 1951, Mary Jane in
1952 and Juliann in 1957.
Jean was a journalist
and worked as a staff writer
for the Condon Globe Times
from 1965 until 1976. She

fundraiser will be Saturday,
March 21, at the Lexington
Grange at 5 p.m. Cost is $10
per person to play.
“Call the sitter and
come as a couple—it could
be a fun date night,” says a
club spokesperson. “Come
with friends, or come alone,
doesn’t matter.”
Snacks and appetizers
will be provided, and club
members say if people want
to bring something it would
be “appreciated but not
required.” Attendees are
asked to bring their own
beverages.

Spring break may be a time when it gets difficult to
keep food on the table, but help is available.
A box of food will be given to anyone who comes to
the All Saints Episcopal Church parking lot this Sunday,
March 22, from 2 to 4 p.m. The church is at the corner
of Gale and Church streets in Heppner.
The box contains canned and packaged foods plus
fresh food items and some hygiene supplies. This gift
comes from several area churches and is coordinated
by the Shared Ministry of Hope Lutheran and All Saints
Episcopal Churches. Anyone who needs but is not able
to pick up a box, call the church office at 676-9970 to
request delivery. Be sure to leave contact information.
