For Obituaries: Obituaries are published in the Heppner GT at no charge and are edited to
meet news guidelines. Families wishing to include information not included in the guidelines
or who wish to have the obituary written in a certain way must purchase advertising space
for the obituary.
For Letters to the Editor: Letters to the Editor MUST be signed by the author. The Heppner
GT will not publish unsigned letters. All letters MUST include the author’s address and phone
number for use by the GT office. The GT reserves the right to edit letters. The GT is not
responsible for accuracy of statements made in letters. Any letters expressing thanks will
be placed in the classifieds under “Card of Thanks” at a cost of $10.
Peck to speak at ‘Love
Your Library’ event
On Thursday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m., Friends of the
Heppner Library will hold its annual Love Your Library
gathering in the living room of the St. Patrick’s Senior
Center on Main Street in Heppner.
Lucille Peck will be the guest speaker, and her topic
is “Files of Time: Keeping Track of Your Genealogy.”
Marsha Richmond, library district director, will tie this
subject to the computer programs that the library has
available for working on personal genealogy.
Refreshments will be served.
Talent show planned
for St. Pat’s weekend
Tryouts to be held March 8
Area youth are invited to try out for a talent show
planned as an opening act for the Gothard Sisters this St.
Patrick’s Day weekend.
The talent show is open to area youth who are high
school seniors and younger who have any kind of tal-
ent to share. However, to make sure the number of acts
correctly fills the time allotted, talent show tryouts will
be held March 8 at 6 p.m. at the St. Patrick’s Catholic
Church parish hall.
The talent show will then take place prior to the
Gothard Sisters’ performance, which is scheduled for
Saturday, March 14, at 7 p.m. in the St. Patrick’s parish
hall. The exact time will be announced later.
Community lunch menu
Amazing Grace Fellowship church members will
serve lunch on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at St. Patrick’s Senior
Center. The meal will include pulled pork sandwiches,
oven fries, pineapple coleslaw, three-bean salad and cook-
ies. Milk is served at each meal. Suggested donation is
$3.50 per meal. Menu is subject to change.

Howe, 66, of Heppner died Saturday, February 7, 2015
at his home. He was born was born August 4, 1948 at
Jefferson City, Iowa.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday,
February 13, at the Christian Life Center in Heppner. A
complete obituary will appear in next week’s Gazette-
Times. Sweeney Mortuary of Heppner is in charge of

She was born August
24, 1927 at Heppner, the
daughter of John and Ruth
Babcock Bergstrom. She
grew up on the family farm
near Eightmile close to
Heppner, and received her
early education at the Lib-
erty School House at Eight-
mile. She then attended
school in Heppner, where
she graduated from Hep-
pner High School.
She lived most of her
adult life in Umatilla Coun-
ty, residing in Hermiston,
Weston and Athena before
settling in Pendleton. Caro-
lyn worked at various jobs
including many years at
Lamb Weston, from which
she retired. She always
considered Heppner to be
her home and returned often
to visit family and friends.
Carolyn leaves behind
her nephew, Michael Berg-
strom and his wife Darcy,
and her sister-in-law Rose
Bergstrom, all of Heppner,
as well as extended family
and good friends.

Volunteer of the Year Award
for the State of Oregon,
presented by Governor Vic
Atiyeh. In 1995 he became
the first non-farmer to be
chosen for the Oregon State
University Agricultural
Hall of Fame for his work
on improving economic
conditions for agriculture
in the Hermiston area. At
various times Joe was a
member of many service
organizations, including
Rotary International, VFW,
Eagles, Elks, and American
Legion. Joe was an active
member of Our Lady of
Angels Catholic Church; he
was past Grand Knight of
the Knights of Columbus,
and a member of the Third
Order of St. Francis. He
also served as a member of
the Eastern Oregon Legisla-
tive Advisory Committee to
the Baker Diocese and the
Archdiocese of Portland,
OR.
Joe was preceded in
death by: his parents; his
brothers, Charles and Rob-
ert; his sister, Anne Bass;
grandson, Shea; and twin
granddaughters, Amy and
April.
He is survived by:

lene Burns, Hermiston;
his daughters, Lynn Duus
(Paul) of Hermiston, and
Bev Eagy (Alan) of The
Dalles; sons Dan (Cindi),
Paul (Billie Jo), and Kev-

The dinner is being held to raise funds to renovate the hall.

beans, tortillas, salsa, Mexican sweet bread, coffee, tea
and punch. Dinners will be available to go or can be
enjoyed at the hall.
Prices are $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and
under, with quesadillas for $1.
