second, but came up short
in the next two games, with
final set scores o f27-25,26-

That narrow loss set
the Cardinals to take on
#2 East, A rlington. The
ladies started slow, losing
the first game, but pushed
hard in the second game,
even while fighting hunger
and fatigue, and managed
to come within two points
in the score.
Raising the bar offen
sively, they took the third
game with a five-point
lead. The tired team pushed
hard during the fourth game
but fell just short at three
points, for final set scores
o f 14-25, 23-25, 25-20
and 22-25.
Overall the Lady Car
dinals played very com
petitively throughout their
last three matches. As one
fan said, “They sure know
how to keep the fans on the
edge of their seats!”
Cardinals lose to Elgin,
still have sights on playoff spot
The lone Cardinal foot
ball team lost to Elgin last
Friday by a hard-fought
score of 56-16.
“Elgin has a good foot
ball team with some out
standing players. We were
playing without starting
quarterback Jason Vaurez,
who we are hoping to have
ready for our last game with
Spray,” said lone coach
Stan Weiper. adding that a
w in over Spray will guaran
tee the team a playoff spot.
“A lthough out-m atched
by the 2A Elgin team, we
played hard and never gave
up. We are a very young
team that is improving each
week and gaining valuable
experience for next year.”
