day when the new basket­
ball court at Hager Park was
named after him.
The court is intended
to be used by young kids in
Heppner. and should bring
many hours o f enjoyment
to the youth in the area. It
sits next to the Little League
field and the new soccer

according to the National
Weather Service in Pend­
leton.
Temperatures in Hep­
pner averaged warmer than
normal during the month
of September, with an av­
erage temperature o f 63.5
degrees, two degrees above
normal. High temperatures
a v e ra g e d 77.6 d e g re e s,
w h ich w as one d e g re e
above normal. The highest
was 88 degrees on the 22nd.
Low temperatures averaged
49.5 degrees, which was 2.9
degrees above normal. The
lowest was 35 degrees on
the 11*.
P recipitation totaled
0.13 inches during Septem­
ber, which was 0.43 inches
below normal. Measurable
precipitation o f at least .01

Heppner principal steps up to
ice bucket challenge
Those who know him
say H eppner elem entary
and high school principal
Matt Combe is not one to
shy away from a challenge,
and the ALS (amyotrophic
lateral sclerosis) Ice Bucket
Challenge was no excep­
tion.
In September, Combe
invited the H eppner E l­
em entary sta ff and stu ­
dents to watch as Jeremy
Rosenbalm dum ped five
gallons o f ice and w ater
onto his head. Boos were
given when Com be jo k ­
ingly brought out his um­
brella, but cheers rang out
w hen the u m brella was
tossed aside and the water
drenched him.
C om be said he was
glad to accept this chal­
lenge because it hits close to
home for one member o f the
Heppner Elementary staff,
Sherry Matteson. Two o f
her long-time friends from
