Mustangs continue winning baseball
season
The Mustang baseball
team continued its winning
season last week with a 10-0
shutout against Umatilla
on April 8 and double
victories, 9-7 and 15-2, in
its Saturday twinbill against
Horizon Christian. The
double-header against the
Hawks started the Heppner/
lone team’s league season;
the Mustangs now stand at
6-1 overall and 2-0 league.

inning, and coasted until the
game was called in the sixth
inning due to the 10-run
mercy rule. Weston Putman
went 3-for-3 at the plate and
had three RBIs. Rill and
Andrew Hatfield each went
2-for-3 with three RBIs.
On Saturday, starting
pitchers JC Putman and
Jordan Bailey contributed
big to the win; Bailey gave
up only three hits in three
innings, while Putman
walked only one batter
and struck out seven in
six innings. The Mustangs
allowed only four walks in
the two games.
D uring game one,
the Mustangs came from
behind 4-2 in the fourth
to end with a 9-7 Mustang
victory. In the second
game, the Heppner team
was clearly in control from
start to finish. Ten runs
and four Horizon Christian
errors ended the game in
the sixth inning due to the
10-run rule.
Bailey and Weston
Putman led Heppner at
the plate, both going a
combined 4-for-7. Putman
had five RBIs and Bailey
had four.
The Mustangs hosted
Sherman on Tuesday and
go on to face Irrigon in a
twinbill on Saturday at 11
a.m. and 1 p.m.
