Heppner golf teams swing
into season with wins
The H eppner High
School boys’ and g irls’
golf teams got their season
underway with both teams
winning the small school
invitational at Pendleton
Country Club last week. The
boys’ team score was 352,
which was 50 strokes ahead
o f runner-up Enterprise
at 402. Cove was third at
405. Individual medalist
honors for the tournament
went to Tate Gentry, who
shot an 83. F reshm an
Logan Grieb, playing in
his first varsity tournament,
finished second by shooting
an 84. Shane Miles shot a
91 to place fifth, Keenan
Helfrecht carded a 94 on
the day and Jesse Corbin
shot a 95.
On the g ir ls ’ side,
Heppner bested Enterprise
419-449 to take home
the championship trophy.
Blake Greenup shot a 92 to
take the top spot. Maddie
Lindsay finished third by
shooting a 99 for the day.
Paige Grieb finished sixth
with a 113 and Macy Gibbs
shot a 115. Emily Rea was
next at 120 and Amanda
Rea shot a 132.
Other
teams
participating were Grant
Union, Wallowa, Stanfield-
Echo, Pendleton JV and
Hermiston JV. The Heppner
girls’ team plays next on
Tuesday at Big River Golf
Course in Umatilla. Both
Mustangs dominate in week of
baseball

then hosted the Joseph/
Enterprise team in a twinbill
on April 5, treating the
visitors to matching 11-1
losses.
With no league games
yet played, the Mustangs so
far have an overall record
o f 3-1,
JC Putman and Jordan
Bailey contributed clean
pitching to the victories on
Saturday, combining for
only eight walks. Putman
also started the day going
4-for-5 with four RBIS, and
Wes Putman went 2-for-3
with three RBIS. Later in
the day Brian Rill went
3-for-4 with four RBIs for
Heppner.
Heppner hosted
U m atilla on Tuesday at action begins with a double-
4:30 p.m. in a final non- header against Horizon
league game before league Christian on Saturday.

vengeance, both the girls and the boys taking top honors at
the recent Pendleton Country Club small school invitational.

The Mustang softball team split last Friday's scores when it
hosted Grant Union and Nyssa in back-to-back games April 4.
The Mustangs defeated Grant Union 14-12 in the morning only
to turn around and face a 9-16 loss to Nyssa that afternoon.
The games give the girls a 1-4 overall record and a 1-0 league
record for the season. They next face Irrigon in a double-
header on that team’s home turf Friday beginning at II a.m.
