there as strong Contenders
in the state playoffs, the
lone Cardinals took fourth
in the 2014 OSAA / U.S.
Bank / Les Schwab Tires
1A Boys Basketball State
Championship in Baker city
last weekend.

Powder Valley but were
beaten out of a spot in the
semifinals with a 92-66 loss
to the Badgers.
That sent the Cardinals
to the consolation bracket
on march 7, where they
faced off against Triangle
Lake. It was a hard fight
a g a in st the M o u n tain
West League team, but the
Cardinals fought their way
through, winning 92-84
for a spot in the game to
determine fourth and sixth
in state.
Another hard-fought
game against Imbler ended
in a 56-51 v icto ry for
the C ardinals, securing
them fourth in the state
tournament.

both seniors, earned 2nd

a grant from the Libri
Foundation and the lone
Topic Club, which enabled
it to purchase new books for
the children’s section.
The Topic Club raised
$350, which was matched
two-to-one by the Libri

first in moto races
Emmel brothers (l-r) Luke and Timothy Emmel took first,
once again, in their moto divisions at The Bike Pit races in Pilot
Rock on March 9. Luke raced Comhined/Open Beginner on his
CRI50R motorcycle and Timothy raced his Yamaha YFZ450

ASSE International
Student Exchange Programs
(ASSE) is seeking local host
families for international
high school boys and girls.
These students are 15 to
18 years of age, and are
coming to this area for the
upcoming high school year
or semester.
The exchange students
arrive from their home
country shortly before
school begins and return at
the end of the school year
or semester. Each ASSE
student is fully insured,
brings his or her own
personal spending money
and expects to contribute
to his or her share of
household responsibilities,
as well as being included in
normal family activities and
lifestyles. The students are
well screened and qualified
by ASSE. Fam ilies can
