On Saturday, Jan. II, eight hardy soul!) left rainy, windy
Heppner in search of better weather and good ski conditions.
The forecast wasn’t good, and the group didn’t expect much,
but they say they kept their spirits up. Bare spots on the
pavement of Coalmine Hill didn't raise their hopes. However,
when they got on spur 10 of the 5350, they were met with blue
skies and bright sunshine. The wind did kick up in places
but the skiers said the tree-lined trail protected them for the
most part. No warming fire was necessary at lunchtime, and
they were back in Heppner in time to watch the victorious
Seahawks. Above (L-R): Luanne and Steve Brownfield, Sherry
Ewing, Betsy Anderson, Terry Harper, Molly Rhea and Dan
VanLiew stop for a photo op on the trail. -Contributedphoto
