BEO draws backpack, school supply
winners
Once again, Bank of
Eastern Oregon’s branches
acted as collection sites
for school supplies. BEO's
employees, customers and
community members do
nated an abundance of sup
plies, as well as cash to
purchase more supplies.
Backpacks and supplies
were then transported to
the grade schools or district
offices for distribution as
needed.
Drawings were also
held for the chance for
grade-school students at
each branch to win back
packs filled with supplies.
In lone, Ethan Ramos and
Jill Rudolf’s names were
drawn by Branch Manager
Sharon Rietmann. At the
Heppner branch, tellers Bev
Crum, Kelsi Putman and
Jill Rudolf of lone
Ethan Ramos of lone
Kevin Smith of Heppner
Debbie Young presented
filled backpacks to Morgan
Cutsforth, Patrick Burch,
Roy Collins, Kevin Smith,
Tommy Bredfield and Zach

Boardman weed
program a success
The City o f Board-
man’s Puncture vine Control
Program has been dubbed a
huge success, with 300 bags
of puncturevine collected...
the equivalent o f 1,500
pounds of the plant.
This is the city’s fourth
year running the program
with a budget of $300. The
city provided the bags,
and participants were paid
$1 per filled bag. The city
plans to burn the weeds
before summer’s end.
Each year the city re
ceives complaints o f the
plant growing along the
bike path, sidewalks and
curbs. The spiny bur or seed
pod from the puncturevine
(Tribulus terrestris), also
known as a “Goathead,”
contains 20 seeds equipped
with long, sharp spines ca-
pable of puncturing a bike
tire or a shoe.
The city’s Code Com
pliance Official Keri Jarmer
said she could see a big
im provem ent along the
city’s bike path, streets and
other public areas such as
the Marina Park’s walking
path.
Many citizens partici
pated in collecting the weed
in the spirit of helping out
their community. A City of
Boardman spokesperson
says the city appreciates all
the participation in the pro
gram, and hopes to sponsor
it again next spring.
