lone teacher retires after
35 years

year. In her 35 years as an
elementary school teacher
in lone, first with Morrow
County School District
and then lone School Dis
trict, 56-year-old Collin has
shared the lives and stories
of multiple generations of
lone students.
“I’ve enjoyed all my
years of teaching and it’s
been interesting working
with teachers who I taught
as children, and kids of stu
dents I taught. The teacher
I worked with last year,
I taught her early in my
career, and I’ve taught all
but one of her kids,” Col
lin says.
Collin was bom in Hep
pner but spent her growing-
up years in Spray, OR. She
graduated from Spray High
School in 1973, the only
senior in a high school that
boasted 14 students and
only one boy. After high
school, she spent two years
at Columbia Basin Com
munity College in Pasco,
playing volleyball and bas
ketball on the relatively
new girls’ teams. She grad
uated from CBCC with an
associate’s degree and then
went to La Grande to attend

on 1-84 near the Port of
Morrow. Part of the new
interactive visitor center
will include a simulated hot
air balloon ride showing all
of Morrow County, and the
ride will use the movie foot

to accomplish this.
