Governor of Oregon, Mr. Kitzhaber,
From the information in the East Oregonian, you
have proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that you talk
with a forked tongue. A few weeks ago while in this east
ern Oregon area, you expounded on the need for more
family-wage jobs. Now you are throwing up roadblocks
to a highly economical coal-shipping facility in Morrow
County. The Morrow Pacific Project has satisfied all EPA
regulations. Now you come along and attempt to stall for
years a project that Morrow County and Oregon require
now. Asia will get coal from somewhere. It must be from
the U.S.; that is the cleanest-burning coal available.
I urge you to recall your letters to the Corp of Engi
neers requesting a costly environmental impact statement.
Get behind Oregon’s economy and job growth, and urge
speedy implementation of this project.

Support Hansell for
Senate
After several weeks of reading about, and thinking
about, the candidates in the primary election for Oregon
Senate District 2 9 ,1 have come to the conclusion that Bill
Hansell will get my vote.
As a long-time volunteer in my church, community
and, occasionally, in Umatilla County, 1 have had several
contacts with Mr. Hansell in his role as a county com
missioner. We have not always agreed on every issue. We
have been in situations where we looked at the same set of
facts, but “weighted” them differently—which sometimes
resulted in being on the opposite sides of the final “yes/
no” decision to be made. But that’s okay—my wife and
I don’t agree on every issue either.
It has been my observation that Mr. Hansell thor
oughly explores the issues before him and never forgets
that he represents every citizen of the county as he strives
to find the “balance” which leads to good governmental
decisions. That is what 1 would expect from him as an
Oregon state senator.. .and why he’ll get my vote.
