ing sought to participate
in the latest weather spot
ter training on May 21 in
Heppner. Weather spotters
trained by the N ational
Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration’s (NOAA)
National Weather Service
(NWS) are key volunteers
who assist the meteorolo

date inform ation about
storm activity.
The tra in in g is
free and will be held in
the Emergency Operations
Center, 320 South Willow.
The training will begin at

watches and warnings, fore

and form it into golf balls
and put them in the freezer
to chill.
-While the balls are
chilling, melt candy coating
in cups and add color to it.
-Dip a stick in the
coating, insert the coated
stick in the chilled cake
ball, and then dip the ball
in the coating.
-Shake on sprinkles
and other decorations and
set the cake pops upright in
holes poked in a cardboard
box to dry.
Things the mem
bers learned: You have to
work fast to get the sprin
kles to stick, you have to
swirl the stick to catch
the drips, sometimes food
coloring makes the coat
ing thick and hard to dip,
it makes a lot of cake pops,
and making cake pops is
very messy and very fun.
Working on record
books while waiting for
things to chill and melt and
dry was not as fun, but it got
done anyway. Participants
then ate cake pops and took
some home to share.
