Traveling trivia show returns to Heppner Upcoming events at
Hope, All Saints

“From which side
is a cow milked by hand -
the cow’s left or the cow’s
right?”
Readers who think
they know the answer to that
question should think about
signing up to participate in
Mr. Bill’s Traveling Trivia
Show, which is scheduled
to return to Heppner next
month.
The nonprofit Hep
pner Day Care will again
sponsor the fun and enter
taining event as a fundraiser
for the nonprofit organiza
tion. The show will be held
on November 19 at 7 p.m. at
the Heppner Elks Lodge.
Maybe the follow
ing question will encour
age some readers to start
gathering teams for what
has become an annual chal
lenge for trivia buffs, a
social outing for fun-lovers,
an opportunity to play
fully goad other teams and
a stimulating experience for
everyone:
“On Disney’s Phi-
neas and Ferb show, who
does Candice have a crush
on?”
Entry form s are
available at Community
Bank. Though teams may
enter on the evening o f
the show, early entries are
encouraged. A table will
be reserved with the team
name for every early entry.
Entering early will help
start the show on time and
prevent delays at the door.
Teams can have
from one to six members.
The entry fee for each team
is $150. That entry fee
breaks down to just $25

There are better locations to dispose
of paint than a landfill.
Recycling your old paint free, is simple and something that everyone can do. More
importantly, protecting our environment is something we should all want to do.
That's why the PaintCare program was created to make it easy for everyone to
recycle and properly dispose of every can of unused paint.

per person on a team of
the allowed and suggested
six members. Though indi
vidual team members often
pay their own entry fees,
another suggestion
is to recruit a spon
sor for one’s team.
The mem
bers of the three top
scoring teams at Mr.
Bill’s will receive
prizes, as well as
bragging rights. Ev
ery participant will have an
equal opportunity to win a
door prize at some point in
the evening. The day care
will also be raffling some
baskets with interesting
contents.
One player who ad
mits to having “absolutely
NO ability to retain trivia”
encourages everyone to join
in what she says is “one of
the most fun-filled evenings
and funniest evenings on
the calendar!”
Readers need not
look far to find someone
who has played at Mr.
Bill’s, since over 130 peo
ple played last year. A Day
Care board member reports
that no one who has ever
participated has ever told
her that the evening was
not great.
“It really is fun and
simple,” this board member
says. “Listen to the set of
questions, discuss with
your team, write down your
answers, listen to the cor
rect answers, do a high-five
(because you were right, of
course!), repeat.”
This could be the
year that any returning
team knocks one
of the perennial top
team s out o f the
running. This could
be the year that a
“ n e w b ie ” team
throw s down the
gauntlet and suc
ceeds in taking over
the spotlight at the top.
The outcome is never a
foregone conclusion, so the
“Quarter and a Dime,” the
“Brainiacs,” the “M.A.N.
Team,” the “SemiSober,”
and other top teams will
be nervously working to
keep others, such as (for
instance) “Legends,” out of
the top places.
This fundraiser is
critical to the operation of
Heppner Day Care, which
no longer receives financial
support from some previ
ous sources, so if readers
think they know, “Whose
last name is DeFazio - La-
veme or Shirley?”, now is
the time to recruit some
friends for a fun way to
support this worthy service
to Heppner.
Mr. Bill’s questions
run the gamut o f topics,
and sample questions and
answers can be found on
his web site: http://www.

This Sunday, Octo
ber 30, the Shared Ministry
o f Hope Lutheran Church
and All Saints Episcopal
Church will w orship at
Hope, on the corner o f
Alfalfa and Cowins in Hep
pner. Worship will begin at
10 a.m.
Many Protestant
churches observe the last
Sunday in October as Ref
ormation Sunday, but this
is especially true of the 70
million Lutherans world
wide who take their name
from Martin Luther, a Ger
man monk who became one
of the chief reformers of the
church. In recognition of the
Lutheran Church’s German
roots, a potluck featuring
German food will follow
the service about 11:30
a.m. Everyone is welcome.
Donations will be accepted
for Roy Proctor’s medical
expenses, to be matched
by Thrivent Financial for
Lutherans.
The first Sunday
in November is observed
every year as All Saints
Sunday. On Sunday, No
vember 6, the Shared Min-
istry’s typical pattern of first
Sunday worship at Hope
will be adjusted; the cel
ebration of All Saints Day
will be held at All Saints
Episcopal Church, begin
ning at 10 a.m. Loved ones
who have died in the faith
will be remembered during
this service. To add names
to the list of those who are
being remembered, please
contact the church office at
676-9970.
The arrival of No
vember also means it’s time
for the next session of First
Fridays Friends of Jesus,
to be held at All Saints, on
comer of Church and Gale,
on Friday, N ovem ber 4
from 8 a.m. to noon. All
children ages 4 though 12
are welcome. Those who
attend in Novem ber are
asked to bring a can of food.
The cans will be added
to the food baskets being
prepared by the Shared
Ministry for distribution to
needy families in the com
munity on November 20.
More information about
the food distribution project
will follow.
Correction
A story in last week’s Gazette-Times regarding
the lone American Legion Auxiliary fall bazaar incor
rectly stated that the setup time on Friday, November 18
was 4-5 p.m. The correct time is 4-8 p.m.
