Stickhorse winners announced
(Editor's
note:
stickhorse winners’ infor
mation published in the
August 31 Gazette-Times
was incomplete and some
information was incorrect.
Following is the corrected
information.)
One of the most
popular events in the Mor
row County Rodeo each
year is the Stickhorse Race.
The usual array of stick
horses included some beau
tiful handmade ones made
by members of the OTPR
Rodeo Committee with help
from Jaiden Mahoney and
Gracie, Sallie and Hattie,
Orem. Anyone who looked
closely may have even seen
some stick bulls this year.
The enthusiastic crowd
cheered as the 37 contes
tants rearing and spinning
and ready to run raced to
the finish line. It is always
fun to watch some of the
fastest racers in the country
receive their medals and
trophies for their efforts.
Winners in the
three and under age group
were Reese Weygandt who
finished first, Maya Payne, a
close second, and Taylor Pal-
mateer, third. Taking first in
the four and five year olds,
was Hallee Hisler. Mason
Orem was second and Sierra
Greenup was third.
The
winners in the very competi
tive six and seven-year-old
division were Brian Lind
say, first place, Kaydence
Fenton, second, and Harley
Anderson, third.
“As we prepared
for this year’s contest, and
looked into old records, it
was interesting to discover
that some of Morrow and
Umatilla Counties finest
athletes were previous win
ners of the Morrow County
Stickhorse Race,” noted an
event spokesperson. Ten
years ago, in 2001, “Beth-
