WALDEN
Weather, wilderness and trail rides make for 'Happy
Trails'

he has a problem telling
people what they can or
cannot do with their private
property. “If you have
wheat, cattle or timber and
it belongs to you, 1 don’t
think 1 (the government)
should tell people how to
sell their private property,”
he said.
Also on the
subject of natural resources,
Walden said a lot of time
was spent fighting cap and
trade, and that Democrats
want to shut down the coal
industry, “as you know
from your own coal plant
here,” he said. “We are
the Saudi Arabia of coal
and we need to use that,”
Walden said.
Walden also
said that over-regulation
is
hurting
businesses
and costing jobs in the
U.S.. He offered several
stories about unreasonable
regulationsfromtheFederal
Environmental Protection
Agency that are costing
jobs in Oregon. “We are
shooting ourselves in the
foot. We are doing this to
ourselves,” he said. “There
*is no accountability.”
On tax reform,
Walden said he thinks loop
holes should be closed for
big oil and gas companies

and those for private jets.
Concerning the
role of government in
the American economy,
Walden
said
the
government should be
investing in our intellectual
future such as education,
but “not picking winners
and losers in business.
Let’s educate people and
let the young people invent
things, build businesses
and employ people,” he
said. He said solar and
wind power were fine, “but
let the market decide” how
and when they are built.
“Less government means
more freedom and local is
better,” he said.
