memory of Mike Armato
The Bread Baking
contest this year is in memory
o f Mike Armato and his
“unending quest for the
perfect loaf of bread”. Mike,
the father of Maggie and Joe
Armato, lived in Heppner
and was well known for
his expertise in baking and
cooking, especially Italian
foods.
Information on the
contest is on page 53.
The Wheat League
recipe for Sunshine Cake is
also featured on page 53 in the
premium book. Fair officials
are looking for more entries so
that they can keep the contest
going. Information about the

contest is on page 59.

Popular kids’ greased pig contest set Friday
Once again the Fair
Board is having the greased
pig contest on Friday at 6 p.m.
in the pig show arena.
The contest is open
for kids four-six and seven-
nine years old. The cost is
$5per participant. Entries are
limited and parents must sign
a waiver. Sign up is during
fair week at the fair office.

Jane Rawlins Memorial Award
for the Best Arrangement.

was a fair superintendent,

4 cups confectioners’ sugar
1/3 cup butter or margarine
1/4 cup hot orange juice
2 tsp. orange peel, grated
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. lemon juice
1 egg yolk
Beat all ingredients
together in a m ixing bowl.
Add more orange juice if
necessary, to get proper
spreading consistency.
