Covered picnic shelter to be erected
at the Morrow County Fairgrounds;
groundbreaking set Thursday at fair
Get ready, get
set, spit!
Last January, 30
Morrow County residents
were fortunate to participate
in the Ford Institute for
Community
Building
Leadership
Development
Program, offered by the Ford
Family Foundation.
One
of
the
requirements of this program
was to select a project that
benefits the whole county
and one that people can work
together complete. A covered
picnic shelter at the Morrow
County Fairgrounds was
selected as the project, which
will facilitate a place where
fair goers can escape the sun
and rain during the hottest time
of the year as well as provide
an event area for weddings,
community gatherings and
other events. “Not only will
the picnic shelter be good for
Morrow County, but due to the
great leadership training, the
Kids and adults-get your
spitiers ready. The Watermelon
Seed Spitting contest will be
Wednesday at fair beginning
at 1 p.m. Children of all
ages (this includes adults) are
welcome to participate.
New this year, the first place
winners in each category will
receive a hat; second and third
will receive t-shirts. Everyone
is invited to participate and
have a slice of Hermiston
Watermelon.

As of right now,
the first class is asking for
your support. They are in
need of cash donations, with
all donations being used to
complete the project before
the 2012 Morrow County
Fair and Rodeo. Donations
of $1,000 or greater will be
listed on a plaque on the picnic
shelter.
Anyone
who
is
interested in donating or
who would like to find out
more about the project and
community
program,
is
invited to visit them at the
fair. They will have a booth
set up as well as an official
groundbreaking
ceremony
on Thursday to mark the
beginning of something great.

Watch your speed
at fair; 25 mph
limit strictly
enforced
The
Oregon
Department o f Transportation
has approved the lowering
of the speed limit in front of
the fairgrounds from August
15-22. The speed limit will
be lowered to 25 mph, and
will be strictly enforced by
the Morrow County Sheriff’s
Office to provide safety for
fairgoers.
