St. Paddy’s Cruz-In to be
held March 19
The 10,h annual St.
Paddy’s Cruz-ln will be
held on March 19 during
the 29lh annual St. Patrick’s
celebration in Heppner.
The show area will be on
Willow Street (between
Heppner Family Foods and
St. Patrick’s Senior Center)
from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Anyone who has a
classic vehicle and would
like to join the show can
register from 9-11 a.m. The
cost is $20 per vehicle.
There will be 13
awards this year including:
Leprechaun’s Choice, Mus
tang’s Choice, Best Con
vertible, Teenage Driver/
Owner, and more. There
will also be a Participant’s
Choice Award to be voted
on by the car owners them
selves. Judging will begin
at noon. The awards will
be given out at 2:30 p.m.

This year’s awards
are sponsored by D&L
Auto Parts, Heppner High
School, Les Schwab Tires,
Lexington Auto Body, a
C ruz-In supporter, and
Looslie Towing.
The event will in
clude a participant’s poker
walk through five down
town businesses with cash
prizes for th first and sec
ond best poker hand.

holding annual book sale
The Friends of the
Heppner Library will be
holding their annual book
sale St. Patrick’s weekend.
The sale will be held at
Heppner City Hall on Fri-
,day, March 18, from 9 a.m.
to 5 p.m. and continue on
Saturday, March 19, from
9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
At the close of the
St. Patrick’s Day Friends’
Book Sale, there will be a
drawing for an electronic
“NOOK” reader. Tickets
for the raffle are being sold
at Sweet Productions for $ 1
each or six for $5, and will
be on sale during our two
day book sale.
Anyone who would
like to help set up on Thurs
day, after 5 p.m. is welcome.
The help would be greatly
appreciated. An “early bird”
book sale for Friends of the
Heppner Library Members
will be held from 7 p.m. to
9 p.m. Membership is $5.00
and will be available that
evening and during the two
day book sale.

to hold poker tournament Saturday

and bake sale fundraiser
extravaganza is scheduled
for Saturday, March 12, at
the lone Legion Hall. The
money raised goes into the
general fund with it paying
for insurance for the hall, up
keep and renovations. The
hall is rented to community
members to use for recep
tions, fundraisers, large
meetings, etcetera.
Buy-in for the pok
er tournament is $40. Reg
istration will begin at 6 p.m.
with poker play to begin
at 6:30 p.m. No late buy-
ins will be allowed. The
last four players will win
money. This year Bingo
will start at 5:30 p.m. For
a quarter per card played,
players have the opportu
nity to win cash.
There will be a va
riety of locally baked goods
for sale. A sandwich and
salad bar with a variety of
sandwich fixings, salads,
and baked beans will be
available for a donation.
There will be a no-host bar
provided by Taylor’s Res
taurant and Lounge.
There will be two
raffle items this year. The
Legionnaires are selling
raffle tickets for a Super
C om anche sin g le shot
handgun, donated by John
Jepsen. It shoots either .45
caliber or .410 gauge shells,
it is new but has been test
fired. The Auxiliary is sell
ing raffle tickets for a half
of a beef, cut and wrapped.
There will be two drawings,
two winners for beef. The
money from the Auxiliary
raffle goes into a fund that
will help purchase, raising
and processing of the beef.
The Auxiliary donates a
whole beef yearly to the
Kidney and Liver Veteran’s
Home in Vancouver. This is
the sixth year of taking beef
to Vancouver.

wrist bands are planned for

earmarked for the purchase
of a GlideScope which will
assist doctors, nurses and
EMTs in the emergency
room at Pioneer Memorial
Hospital. This life saving
tool can be used for both
children and adults when
breathing is compromised.

Inland Northwest Chorale
to perform March 12 & 13
Inland Northwest Chorale will present “Toward
the Unknown Region” under the direction of R. Lee Fri-
ese. Performances are planned for: March 12 at 7 p.m. at
Christ the King Lutheran Church in Milton-Freewater;
and March 13 at 4 p.m. at the Umatilla High School
Commons in Umatilla.
Admission is free to all Inland Northwest con
certs. Donations are always gratefully accepted. A recep
tion of beverages and cookies will be held following the
concerts.
The chorale consists of 35 volunteer singers
from many locations in the Northeast Oregon. Rehearsals
are held on Monday evenings at 7 p.m. at Harris Junior
Academy in Pendleton. New singers are always welcome.

“Oliver” to be performed
March 13 & 17
For the last six
years, Fr. Gerry Condon’s
original dramas have un
officially marked the start
of St. Patrick’s Weekend
activities in Heppner. Fr.
Gerry is the pastor of St.
William Parishi lone, and
St. Patrick Parish, Hep
pner. “Oliver,” his new
est production, tackles a
more serious topic than the
last few plays - religious
persecution in Ireland and
martyrdom. This play tells
the story of Oliver Plunkett,
an Irish priest and bishop
killed for his faith. Saint
Oliver Plunkett is perhaps
not as well known to Amer-
icans, so Irish native, Fr.
Gerry, chose his story for
his next drama.

The Heppner FBLA (Future Business Leaders of
America) has 10 students who have earned the opportu
nity to represent Heppner at the state FBLA convention
in Portland April 7-9.
These students took online tests, spoke in front
of panels, and some even t6ok paper/pencil tests. Com
peting against schools from Wallowa, Umatilla, Union,
and Baker County, they placed in the top 10 at the FBLA
Regional Competition in La Grande in February. Gabby
Sanchez, Tayllor Gould, and Daisy Victorio placed 10lh
in management decision making; Ashlie Hanson placed
