Heppner wrestlers compete in seventeen team tournament
The Heppner wres
tling team traveled to Half
way to compete in the Pine
Eagle invitational wrestling
tournament. The tourna
ment consisted of 17 teams
from Oregon and Idaho
ranging in size from 1A to
4A. The Mustangs finished
a respectable eighth over
all and fourth among the
ten teams from Heppner’s
district. Crane, also from
Heppner’s district, won the
tournament by more than
a 100 point margin over
second place Baker. #
Jarreid Miller con
tinued to lead the team in
his final regular season
tournament as a Mustang.
The senior went 3-0 after
a first round bye to win the
gold medal. In what could
turn out to be the district
championship matchup, he
defeated Forest Cox from
Enterprise/Wallowa in the
tournament finals. Miller
finished the regular season
with a team leading record
of 35 wins and 9 losses and
will most likely enter the
district tournament as the
number one seed at 130
pounds. He has defeated
all 130 pound district op
ponents and would only

Mustang JV girls split during last weekend of season
The Heppner JV
girls split during their final
weekend of the season.
The JV Mustangs
had a road game on Friday
at Irrigon and things did
not go their way. After
one quarter the Knights
took a 10-8 lead with all
but one point scored by a
single Knight. In the second
neither team looked good
on offense scoring only
three each. At half-time the
Knights led 13-11. In the
third Makenzie Correa and
Lilly Sandford got things
going with Correa getting
nine points and Sandford
seven and Irrigon 16-8 and
taking a 27-21 lead into the
fourth. But the Mustang
defense went south, along
with the offense, and Ir
rigon outscored Heppner
17- 6 to take a 39-33 win.
The Mustangs were
led in rebounding by Correa
with eight and Sandford
with seven. Five girls had
three steals each. The scor
ing was Corrrea with 11,
Sandford with eight, Cassi
Day with six, Emma Osmin
with four, Blake Greenup
with two and one each for
C arrie H aguew ood and
Aimee Seines.
On Saturday the
Mustangs took on the Stan
field Tigers and got off to a
good start and never looked
back. They took the first
quarter 15-7 and the second
8-0 with a tremendous de
fensive effort. Seven girls
scored in the half for a bal
ance attack. They kept it up
in the third, putting up an
other 11 and giving up only
five. In the fourth the Tigers
mounted a comeback but it
was to late by then. They
put up 17 to Heppner’s six
for a final of 40-29. Blake
Greenup led the team with
