Buchholz takes over reins as Heppner District Ranger
Todd Buchholz has
been selected as new dis
trict ranger on the Heppner
Ranger District, announced
Kevin Martin, Forest Su
pervisor for the Umatilla
National Forest.
Buchholz is sta
tioned at the district of
fice in Heppner, Oregon
and took over management
of the 212,213 acre unit
on May 10. “We are very
glad to have Todd join our
team,” said Martin. “He
brings a lot of energy and
enthusiasm to the forest.”
Buchholz began
his Forest Service career
in 1978 as a firefighter on
Mount Hood National For
est’s Bear Springs Ranger
District. He earned a bach
elor’s degree in fisheries
from Oregon State Univer
sity in 1984 and worked
a short time at an Oregon
Department of Fish and
Wildlife fish hatchery. He
has also worked for the
Army Corps of Engineers
and NOAA Fisheries. He
returned to the Forest Ser
vice working in the aquatics
programs on both the Sius-
law and Willamette Nation
al Forests. Buchholz’s most
recent position was on the
Umpqua National Forest as
the forest fish biologist and
local union president.
“I’ve always want
ed to work on a forest east
of the Cascades in a com
munity where the people
have a strong connection
to the land and the pace of
life is more amiable,” said
Buchholz. As ranger, he
looks forward to the op
portunity to work closely
and collaborate with county
com m issioners, partner
agencies, local communi-
ties and the Tribes. “I’m
all about building relation
ships and looking for ways
to get things done,” said
Buchholz.
Buchholz and his
girlfriend Jean enjoy sail
ing, fishing, and cycling.
They also play musical
instruments including the
guitar, the mandolin and,
appropriately for the com
munity of Heppner, the bag
pipes.
