To the Editor:
Strength o f character and commitment to public service are the two most
important attributes of a public official. Too often, we don’t have much information
about those qualities when we make choices at the ballot box. With our locally elected
officials, voters usually have the opportunity to make a much more informed choice.
Such is the situation with the Morrow County District Attorney’s race. As a local at
torney, 1 have worked with both Justin Nelson and Tom Cutsforth. Also, 1 had the for
tunate experience of w atching Justin Nelson grow up and develop into the fine young
man that he is. He is Morrow County bom and educated. Too often we see the cream
o f our crop, our youth, leave our community, to develop their careers and to live their
lives elsewhere. Justin Nelson is the exception to that rule.
Justin has all the skills needed to be an excellent district attorney. The experi
ence he has gained as a deputy district attorney in Umatilla County has given him all
the tools needed to be an efficient county prosecutor as well as an advisor and consensus
builder to those various state and county agencies with which he must cooperate to be
effective. Justin makes decisions only after listening and carefully considering those
individuals whose input is critical. His administration o f the Morrow County District
Attorney’s office will be one of cooperation and accessibility, qualities sometimes not
seen in our elected officials. He will work with local and state law enforcement of
ficials to develop cooperative programs. He will be on hand to advise and assist local
and state law enforcement whenever needed.
The Morrow County District Attorney’s Office is more expansive than law
enforcement. The office must work cooperatively with many other local and state
agencies from the county juvenile department to the school district. Justin Nelson will
cultivate those avenues o f communication and cooperation needed to make him a truly
successful and effective public servant.
There is no truer measure of an elected official’s potential than his up-bringing
and life history. Justin was raised by outstanding parents in an outstanding community.
Both he and his wife, Andrea, are an integral part o f the Morrow County community
now. His background is known to the community and his credentials are impeccable. I
have no questions about his abilities, his character, or his commitment to public service.
Please vote for Justin Nelson for Morrow County District Attorney.

Letter to the Editor:
1 am writing this letter to recommend that everyone in Morrow County vote
for Justin Nelson for district attorney, not just because he is a “hometown boy”, but I
feel that he is the best person for the job.
As a language arts teacher in Heppner, I taught Justin for several years in junior
high school. He was and is personable, caring, honest, responsible and hard working.
I do not recall ever having to remind him to get busy or to hand in his assignments.
He worked diligently to get his work done well and on time. 1 am sure that that has
been his standard throughout his student years as he attended OSU and Willamette
Law School.

Letter to the Editor and citizens o f Morrow County:
We are writing this letter in support o f Justin Nelson for our Morrow County
District Attorney. We have known Justin since he was a young child and have always
been very impressed with his quality of character. He has exhibited a strong sense of fair
ness and ethical behavior in everything that he is involved in. He also is disciplined and
decisive about what he wants to do and where he wants to be in his life and career.
He decided, early in his career, that he wanted to live and work in Morrow
County. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Oregon State University and was in
the top 10% of his class from Willamette University College o f Law. He was offered
positions in Portland and Salem, but chose to be here instead.
He is excited by this opportunity to serve our rural communities in the capac
ity of district attorney, and is strongly motivated to provide the communities that he
grew up in with the very best prosecutor’s office. His experience as deputy district
attorney in Umatilla County gives him the experience and the contacts with local law
enforcement to do just that.
Justin is the epitome o f what we hope for the children that we raise in our
small rural communities. We are very excited and proud to support him in his attempt
to become our district attorney.
His opponent, on the other hand, has many more years o f experience. He has
been district attorney in a couple o f neighboring counties and has had the experience
o f being recalled from his position in Wheeler County.
For us the choice is clear, we will go with the young man of character who
has always known that his heart and home are here in Morrow County. We will pass
on the man with more experience who is seeking this position as a fail-back plan after
being recalled by our neighbors.
