“Cabin Fever” concerts to be held January 9 ,1 0
John Wambeke &
Friends have the cure for
“cabin fever” with a pair
of concerts Saturday night
January 9, and Sunday
afternoon, January 10 at
the Hermiston Conference
C en tc on Highway 395.
The Saturday night
performance begins with a
Dutch oven dinner at 5:30
p.m., followed by the show
with a variety of music and
a healthy dose of comedy.
The Wambeke Band is back
by popular demand after
some 500 people attended
their first ever Cabin Fever
Concert last January.
John Wambeke of
Hermiston is on guitar as
singer and songwriter and
is joined by his son Frazer,
whose expertise is in piano,
vocals, and jazz. Along
with the Wambekes will be
some familiar faces from
previous concerts including

Pat Ward, Harry Noble, the
Frazier Wambeke Jazz Trio,
Jessica St. Hilaire, and lo
cal musicians, Eric Jepsen
on fiddle, and Rebecca
Jepsen on harp. Although
he doesn’t usually sing, Eric
will perform a love song
he wrote himself entitled,
“Hey Mom, I’ve Got a Girl
friend.” Rebecca will be
playing harp for the dinner
hour on Saturday night.
Wambeke and side-
kick Pat Ward will again be
transforming themselves
into Thelma and Eunice,
the ladies of Dibbley Parish
in one of their skits. The
"ladies” have a habit of gos
siping about whatever’s on
their minds. This program
will show them trying to
lose weight as well. Harry
Noble, a former bronc rider,
will perform a Polynesian
number he learned while
stationed in Hawaii during
military service. The Frazer
Wambeke Trio, comprised
of three talented performers
on piano/vocals, drums, and
bass, will add to the band’s
musical talent.
There are only 250
tickets available for the
January 9 dinner and show.
Cost is $28 each. Advance
purchase is recommended.
The Sunday afternoon mati
nee performance of humor
and m usic, w ithout the
food, begins at 3 p.m. and
costs $8 per person. Tickets
can be purchased at the door
or in advance at the Herm
iston Conference Center by
calling 567-6151.
USDA implements new crop disaster assistance program
USDA has imple
mented the new Supple
mental Revenue Assistance
Payments program (SURE)
in accordance with the 2008
Farm Bill.
SURE p ro v id es
crop disaster assistance
payments to eligible pro
ducers on farms that have
incurred crop production
or crop quality losses. The
program takes into con
sideration crop losses on
all crops grown by a pro
ducer nationwide. SURE
provides assistance in an
amount equal to 60 percent
o f the difference between
the SURE farm guarantee
and total farm revenue. The
farm guarantee is based
on the amount of crop in-
surance and Non-insured
Crop Disaster Assistance
Program (NAP) coverage
on the farm. Total farm
revenue takes into account
the actual value of produc
tion on the farm as well as
insurance indemnities and
certain farm program pay
ments.
To be eligible for
SURE, producers must have
suffered at least a 10 percent
production loss on a crop of
economic significance. In
addition, producers must
meet the risk management
purchase requirement by
either obtaining a policy
or plan of insurance, under
the Federal Crop Insurance
Act or NAP coverage, for

Heritage Trail is a 12-mile
non-motorized, recreation

the banks of the Columbia
River. Future signage ac
tivities will be updating/re-
placing confidence and ju
risdiction markers between
Boardman and Irrigon. The
final signage activity will
be adding mileage markers
along the trail. This is the
final step, because the trail
path seems to shift with de

Updating and re
placing interpretive panels
along the Morrow County
Columbia River Heritage
Trail began last spring.
The first phase was
updating and replacing the
trail map and highlighting
trail access points. Trail eti
quette guides were replaced
on the reverse side of the
maps. These informative
signs are now in place.
The second phase,
updating, re-coloring and
replacing the large interpre
tive panels, is underway.
Two interpretive panels
will be replaced as soon
as weather permits. One
panel has information about
Columbia River Ice Age
Floods and the second in
terpretive panel is about
Colum bia Basin Native
American History.

fortunate that Cheryl is still

important to this project,”
said a member of Morrow
county by the Agriculture
Secretary under a Secre
tarial Disaster Designation.
Regardless of a Secretarial
Disaster Designation, indi
vidual producers may also
be eligible for SURE if the
actual production on the
farm is less than 50 percent
of the normal production on
the farm due to a natural
disaster. For SURE, a farm
is defined as all crops in
which a producer had an Four Corners Snowmobile Club
