Proof that “ it takes a
community to complete a
stage production” lies in
our extensive list o f indi
viduals we want to thank
as we look hack at “Rails,
Riches, and Rejection.”
When we started our re
search, help came from the
Heritage Museum files;
Margaret Flaherty, who
ordered materials through
the library; Florence No
lan, who shared a book
full of Willow Creek rail
road history; and Kathryn
Hoskins, Betty Carlson
and Gay Harshman, who
shared
family-railroad
histories.
Autumn Morgan at the
Gazette Times helped us
get the word out by ac
cepting our three articles
about the coming event.
And Erin Mills traveled
from Hermiston for one of
our practices, visited with
actors and producers, took
pictures, and wrote a great,
lengthy article for the East
Oregonian.

Our stage backdrops
were especially important
because we had to move
inside. Dave Fowler con
structed the stage attach
ments for the backdrops
that he, Jean Strange,
Kolleen Chapa, and Jo
anna Patton created.
Daye Stone loaned us
three HHS platforms for
stages, and the HES cus
todians loaned and helped
us load another platform.
Erin Price, Ian Murray,
Lane Wright, and Bob
Harrison helped us load
and unload those and 100
folding chairs. And Merle
Cowett helped us with our
move into the museum.
Tiffany McCurry creat
ed our program, and Trish
and staff at BEO printed
and folded them.
The audience o f over
one hundred show ed w on
derful support, and they
were patiently understand
ing o f our challenges w ith
the staging changes dic
tated by the weather. And
though Dino’s Catering
faced adverse conditions
with power outages, din
ers seemed to realize that
Dean and his staff were
working hard to serve a
delectable meal.
Our thirty-two actors
made the play work. They
offered great performanc
es on stage, had great sug
gestions at practice, and
\
provided much o f their
own costuming and props.
Kolleen Chapa hustled to
change sets and to help ac
tors.
Bob Harrison, Dan Bro

Hughes, Butch Laughlin,
Frank and Cara Osmin,
Joann Byrd, and Cliff
Green stayed with us after
the performance, to clean
up, fold up, and return
stages, chairs, and folding
chairs that evening.
We thank you all! Long

helpful attitudes reign in

I have tried several times
to thank the people of lone
family and friends and I have
not been very successful. I
somehow have throat and eye
problems. Thank you does not
go far enough to convey my
thoughts at this time. I am
not going to mention names
or times, there are too many,
and if 1 left someone out it
wouldn't be fair nor inten
tional. lone has built a school
district that resembles their
community and the people
that live in it. What a wonder
ful place to work!!! I appreci
ate all the help 1 have received
in the classroom and on the
courts and fields. The sup
port and cooperation from all
the staff at lone Schools has
made these twenty-two years
much easier. My family and
I would like to express our
graditude for the wonderful
send off. It was done in typi
cal lone fashion and exceeded
expectations. Thank all of you
for the cards, words of thanks,
and gifts. I know 1 have over
used the words, but THANK
