Jim Swanson presents Virgil Morgan with a plaque for 40 years
of dedication to the lone athletic program. -Photo by Theresa
Crawford
Virgil Morgan was recently honored with a plaque
for his 40 years of dedication to the lone athletic pro
gram.
Morgan first began running the clock for lone’s
basketball games in 1969, Jim Swanson’s senior year.
Since that first year, he has ran the clocks, kept the stats,
refereed, kept books, ran chains, and anything else needed
for any sporting event in lone.
The bottom of the plaque reads: “Virgil, stop the
clock.” The inscription is in reference to an old time clock
that lone used to have that had a malfunction and would
not stop running. Morgan would always say “1 am trying”
and then, with the right touch, it would stop.
