THINK LIKE A BURGLAR
An experienced burglar
who spent 15 years in prison
and now works for a security
company gives this advice
on how to avoid being bur
glarized: Here are some of
his tips:
Think like a burglar. Try
to get into your home with
out a key. If you can make
it, you can bet a burglar will
too.
Keep both windows and
doors locked, including the
garage door into the house.
Burglars love this entrance
as it is hidden.
Use deadbolt locks on out
side doors and your bedroom
door. If someone gets into
the house, the bedroom lock
gives you time to call the po
lice and/or vacate the house.
When you're away from
home, set indoor lights and
radios on timers. Don’t leave
clues around like uncollected
newspapers.
Don’t confront a burglar
— especially at night. Even
though daytime burglaries
are most common, night
time break-ins are most
dangerous. Anyway, don’t
play heroics, day or night.
