A Look Back at 2008
A fire engulfed several hay stacks at the JVB Dairy near lone, resulting in a spectacular blaze that lit
up the night sky for miles around. Calls went out to fire departments and firefighters from Heppner,
lone and Lexington responded. Firemen worked mostly on containing the blaze into the night, and
the next day revealed a smoldering pile of burnt hay. The fire was located away from the milking
buildings, home sites and the animals, and no structures appeared to be damaged, and no animals

Heppner High School held their annual Mustang Mop Up on Thursday, May I. Students from the
school worked throughout the day to spruce up the community. The work crews completed 57 civic-
community based projects. Crews picked up garbage throughout Lexington and Heppner. Students
could be found working at the museum, hospital, county annex building, the Stable of Youth, Hager
Park, W illow Creek Country Club and many other places. Approximately 15 yard clean-ups were

Heppner High School's volleyball team placed fourth in the state
tournament this year. This was the first year Heppner's team had
been to the state tournament since 1999. -Contributed Photo
Residents of Heppner were w arned that riding ATVs on the streets
now carries the risk of drivers being ticketed. Up until this year,
ATVs were allowed to be driven on the city streets. -Photo by

an honorary diploma from Heppner High School. He did not earn
a diploma because of military service. DeSpain was awarded his
diploma during the annual Veteran's Day program held at IIIIS.

OSU honor roll announced
Morrow County students w ho have made the Scho­
lastic Honor Roll for the fall term have been announced by
Oregon State University. To be on the Honor Roll, students
must carry at least 12 graded hours o f course work. Stu­
dents on the Honor Roll included:
Boardman - Andrew D. Goad, senior, computer
science (4.0); Leticia Rodriguez, freshman, exercise and
sport science (3.5 or better).
A new land partition was approved by the Heppner City Council
Heppner - Laurie L. Murray, junior, general science
this year. The land is owned by Merlyn Robinson.
