Area writers invited to submit works for regional anthology
Works are still being ac­
cepted through Dec. 31 for
a proposed regional anthol­
ogy by Libraries o f Eastern
O regon (LEO ). “ W riting
Home: An Eastern Oregon
A n th o lo g y ” w ill feature
prose and poetry on a w ide
variety o f subject m atter
by writers o f all ages from
throughout the region , as
well as works about Eastern
Oregon by outside writers.
The anthology is part o f
LEO’s regional “A Sense
of Place” project which cel­
ebrates the arts, sciences and
humanities in Eastern Or­
egon communities through
the theme o f place and its
many meanings.
Subm issions o f essays,
short stories or other prose
(5,000 words or less) and
poems o f any length may be
submitted for consideration.
Writers of all ages and skills
levels are encouraged to
participate.
Pieces selected for the
anthology may be on any
topic, with the connection
to “place” in the an th o l­
ogy coming from either the
participation o f writers who
live in Eastern Oregon, or
else by reference to Eastern
Oregon in works submitted
by outside writers.
The anthology is planned
to be published in 2009 and
will be used as a fundraiser
to help bring programs to
public libraries in the re­
gion.

served by LEO, only half a

for adult community pro­
grams. Many of the smaller
libraries in the region con­
tinue to operate at less than
$ 18 per capita annually - or
less than the cost o f one
h ard co v er book - and a
few are operated solely by
volunteers.

ogy, four copies should be

two-year project funded by
the Institute o f Museum and
Library Services (1MLS) to
increase programs, opportu­
nities for collaboration, and
recognition for the region’s
public libraries. LEO part­
ners in the project include
the Smithsonian American
Art Museum, Oregon Muse­
um o f Science and Industry,
and Oregon Council for the
Humanities.

annual luncheon w ill be
held Thursday, January 8,
beginning at 11:30 a.m. at
the All Saints Episcopal
Church Parish Hall.
The cost for the meal
will be $12. John and Nancy
Gochnauer will be serving
baked chicken breast, au
gratin potatoes, vegetables,
roll and dessert. RSVPsare
now being accepted for the

District Attorney Elizabeth
Ballard has released the fol­
lowing report:
-C h ristin a Louise
Grierson, 38, was convicted
o f Possession o f Metham-
phetamine, a Class C felony,
and was sentenced to 18
months supervised proba­
tion, 90 sanction units with
30jail units, driver’s license
suspension, and 80 hours of
community service. Grier­
son was also convicted o f
Endangering the Welfare of
a Minor, a Class A misde­
meanor, and was sentenced
to 180 days incarceration
with 180 days suspended,
and four years bench pro­
bation. Total fines, fees and
assessments were $2,411.
