Students learn about “Water for Life”
Oregon East Symphony presents
annual Holiday Music Festival
Preparations are well
underway for the Oregon
East Sym phony’s annual
Holiday Music Festival to
be held Friday, December
5, at 7:30 p.m. at the Vert
Auditorium in Pendleton.
Tickets are on sale
now at the O regon East
Symphony office (345 SW
4lh Street) and A rm chair
Books (39 SW D orion).
Tickets are $12 for seniors
and adults and $3 for stu­
dents, and are general ad­
mission seating.
The F estiv al is a
longtime Pendleton holiday
tradition which features sev­
eral Oregon East Symphony
ensembles, audience sing-a-
longs, and other community
groups. On the program this
year is the Young Voices of
Eastern Oregon, the Pre­
ludes String Orchestra, the
A-Sharp Players O rches­
tra, and the Holiday Hand
Bell Choir. In addition, the
Pendleton M en’s Chorus
w ill m ake th eir H oliday
Music Festival debut under
the direction o f W illiam
Mayclin.
M ayclin will also
direct the Oregon East Sym­
phony Chorale in a perfor­
mance of Vivaldi’s Gloria.
The Chorale w ill be accom­
panied by a chamber orches­
tra including strings, oboe,
trumpet, and harpsichord.
Also, at the concert,
the Oregon East Symphony
Guild will raffle off a “Best
of Pendleton” basket featur­
ing an overnight stay at the
Pendleton House B&B, a
gift certificate for dinner at
Raphael’s Restaurant, two
VIP passes to concerts at
the Pendleton Center for the
Arts, two com plim entary
tickets to an OES concert,
and a bottle of wine from
Zerba Cellars.

Water Conservation District
held their annual conserva­
tion poster contest entitled
“ Water for Life" with Mor­
row County Schools. This
y e a r’s them e em phasizes
the importance o f healthy
watersheds and what we do
on the land impacts the qual­
ity and quantity o f water and
the condition o f our other
natural resources.
T h e l s,- 3 rd p la c e
winners received “Water is
Life” t-shirts. The Is' place
w inners com peted in the
Oregon Association o f Con­
servation D istrict contest
this month and placed 1st
there also. The winners of
the state contest will receive
a $25 savings bond from
OACD and will compete on
Kinzua Lunch Group to meet
the National level in Febru­
ary 2009.

Tchaikovsky's “Nutcracker
Suite” and a festival o f fa­
vorite Christmas carols and
holiday music. A reception
free to the public but do­
nations are accepted, and
are tax deductible. Inland
Northwest Musicians’ con­
certs are sponsored by local
businesses and personal
supporters.

Holy Name Society meeting held
Youth Night at Elks Club a success
A large Kinzua Lunch Group met at Service Creek
on November 14 for a lunch and to enjoy a beautiful
day. Those attending from Fossil were Bob and Mary Lee
Britt. John and Midge Geer, Steven and Roberta Conlee,
Rob Conlee, Pat Hyatt, and Marilyn Garcia; from elk camp
Bruce and Dixie Hollomon; from Twickenham Ada Schell;
from Heppner Bonnie Campbell, OL and Jean Ann Adams;
and from Prineville Bob and Peggy Nelson.
The next lunch will be December 12 at the Apple
Peddler in Prineville at 11:30 a.m.
MC Fair Board meeting scheduled
The Morrow County Fair Board meeting will be
held Monday, December 1, in Boardman at the Port of
Morrow Building at 6 p.m.

"U here h riends Meet "
The Heppner Elks Club held their first Youth Night
on November 13. Approximately 40 kids attended.
A dinner o f hot dogs, mac-n-cheese, salad, ham­
burgers, and dessert was served. Approximately $350
worth o f table prizes were given away. Donations of a
Nintendo DS and three guns (two .410 single shots and a
Ruger 10-22) were awarded to four lucky winners.
Tim Jaca won the Nintendo DS. Jorden Sweeney
won the Ruger 10-22 and Kane Sweeney and Cason Mitch­
ell won the .410 single shots.

The men o f St. Patrick Parish and St. William Par­
ish recently attended the annual memorial mass for their
deceased members. During the mass the names o f the
deceased members were remembered.
Following the mass they held their November
meeting they discussed their participation in the various
activities o f the parish. The meeting concluded with a
presentation o f the life o f St. Paul. As this year has been
designated the “Year o f St. Paul" by Pope Benedict XVI,
Dan Van Schoiack made an excellent presentation, detail­
ing various aspects o f the life o f St. Paul.
