Saturday's performance was cancelled because o f the HHS football playoffs, but new performances have been scheduled for Tuesday, November 18, and Thursday, November 20, both at 7 p.m., in addition to the Thursday, November 13, performance set for 7 p.m. and the Sunday, Nov. 16, performance at 1 p.m. The comedy, a spoof o f “ Romeo and Juliet,” will be performed by the 19-member HHS drama department, ranging from grades seven-12. Tickets are on sale for $4 at Sweet Productions and will be on sale at the door. There is seating for 100 at each performance. Director is Jodi Chapa. HHS Students of the Month announced H e p p n e r's Tow n and Country banquet will be Thursday, January 15, and it’s time to nom inate a community member for “Woman o f the Year”, “Man of the Year”, “ Business ot the Year”, “Citizen-Educator o f the Y ear” , “ L ifetim e Achievement” and “Youth Award”. Early school dismissal for Thanksgiving Heppner Elementary School will be dism issed at 12:45 p.m. on Wednes day, November 26, for the Thanksgiving holiday. Hep pner High School will be dismissed at 1 p.m. Novem ber 26. School will resume on December 1 as usual. .«.» m ica 4 in I » Nu The Bank o f Eastern Oregon has released the floor plans for the new Heppner Branch lobby scheduled for construction early in 2009. “The design incorporates the curved teller line customers have found so appeal ing in the new Boardman and redesigned Condon lobbies, and provides for improved privacy and spaciousness on the banking floor,” said Tricia Rollins, Heppner Branch manager. “ We are really looking forward to a fresh new look and upgrading our bank ing center. Our team has been actively involved in the design and is excited about the improved working area w e’ll have,” said Rollins. Design work is being done by Sargent Architects in Hermiston and construction has been awarded to Allstott Construction LLC. Sock drive underway for Russian orphans Tom and Pam Nor ton o f Heppner are spear heading a drive to collect thousands o f pairs o f socks for orphans in eastern Rus sia through their ministry of “Heart to Heart.” Tom has been to Russia several times in the past six years and has established reliable contacts with four different orphan ages - including a baby or phanage, and most recently a handicapped orphanage with 400 children in it. Socks are also need ed at a rehabilitation center- w here abandoned or abused children are sent temporarily before being placed in an orphanage. The lone Community Church held their annual Halloween party for children pre-school to sixth grade on October 26. There were crafts, games, food, prizes, and a parade. Lisa Rietmann was in charge and “did a great job organizing and getting many members to participate,” said a spokesperson. Handicapped orphans in Russia are pictured receiving gifts. Also pictured is Heart to Heart coordinator, Alina, center. through age 18. Tom started collecting socks when he discovered that the children are only supplied with two pairs o f socks each year. Last year, Heart to Heart collected and mailed over 700 pairs o f socks. According to Tom, the chil dren are so thrilled to get som ething new and p er sonal. This year, they hope to collect a couple thousand pairs o f socks or all sizes and colors. The socks will be boxed up and mailed to Alina, a Russian friend o f the Nortons. She distributes all o f the gifts that are sent over. Alina also uses cash notations to go to neigh- boring China and purchase supplies there as well.
