UMESD to assist schools with
special needs Child Find
Schools in Umatilla and Morrow counties are at­
tempting to locate all persons between the ages o f 0 (birth)
and 21 not enrolled in public school who may have special
needs due to concerns with the following: vision, hearing,
speech, language, health, general development, behavior,
body movement, and learning.
If you have any o f the above concerns regarding a
child in your care who is aged 5-21, please contact your
local school district’s special education contact person:

Tour of tree farm to take place of
weekly Chamber Lunch Meeting
A tour o f the tree farm will be taken in lieu o f the
weekly Chamber Lunch Meeting on Thursday, October
23. Information on the tree farm, for those who will be
attending is as follows:
- Senior Bus transportation - $5 donation: Bus­
es will be boarded in the parking lot behind City Hall at
8 a.m.
-Time: The tour will be from 9 a.m .-12 p.m. with
anticipated return to Heppner at 1 p.m.
-Dress: No open toed shoes or flip flops, wear hik­
ing boots or tennis shoes, and long pants.
-Lunch: Sandwich, chips and bottled water can be
pre-ordered for $5.

Ryan and Jodie Matteson
Jodie Carlson and Ryan Matteson were married on
May 10,2008 at Peace Lutheran Church in Pendleton. The
ceremony was officiated by Lea Matthieu.
Jodie is the daughter of Phil and Kathy Carlson of
Heppner. Ryan is the son o f Chuck and Sherry Matteson,
also o f Heppner.

pner.

State University he became
an o fficer in the U nited
States Navy where he flew
helicopters during the early
V ietnam War. F ollow ing
his Navy career Mr. Hayes
piloted commercial airliners
for Pan American Airways.
On June 30,1961 he
married Barbara Baker in
Pensacola, FL. The couple
has tw o sons, Jam es, W.
“Jay” and Loran S. The fam­
ily moved from Medford to
Heppner 1976.
Mr. Hayes coached

4-H leader. He became an
avid golfer and served a
term on the Willow Creek
G o lf C o u rse B oard. He
also served on the Morrow
C ounty M useum B oard.
His hobbies included hunt­
ing, fishing, RVing, which
included being a member of
the Pendleton Rovin’ Elks,
and he enjoyed w atching
high school athletic events.
Survivors include:

Electric Co-Op annual meeting
to be held November 6
The annual dinner meeting o f Columbia Basin
Electric Cooperative, Inc. is planned for Thursday, Novem­
ber 6, at the American Legion Hall in lone. Registration
starts at 4:30 p.m. with dinner served at 5:15 p.m.
The annual meeting and election o f directors will
follow the dinner. Multiple door prizes will be awarded
and results o f the annual 4th grade Electrical Safety Poster
contest and the annual Photography contest will be an­
nounced, with winning entries on display.
Again this year will be a special section o f door
prizes devoted just for youth when accompanied to the
meeting by their parents. MP3 players, iTune cards, and
other prizes for students will be given out.
All members are welcome to come and learn about
their Electric Co-Op.
