Cardinals fall to Redsides 60-16
Not too much went
right for the lone Cardinals
on their road trip to Maupin
last Friday. Playing in con
ditions ranging from down
pour to mud puddle, the
Cards lost to the Redsides
60-16.
The Redsides scored
early and often, jumping on
the Cards 20-0 in the first
quarter and taking a 42-0
lead at the half.
A th ir d q u a r te r
touchdow n pass from RJ
Ramos to Alex Rietmann
gave the Cardinal faithful
a little something to cheer
about. On a 4lh and 13, Riet
mann, who is not usually in
the receiving corps, got the
first down and 47 more yards
for the touchdown. Ramos
hit Zac Orem with another
pass for the point after.
Alex Rietmann also
pulled oft'the only other Car
dinal score midway through
the fourth quarter, taking a
kickoff return almost coast
to coast. Picking up the slip
pery pigskin inside the five,
he fumbled it a bit before
grabbing and going. The
blockers gave him some
holes and he shot through
for the score. Zac Orem and
Cory Peterson connected on
the point after.
“It was one o f those
things that started off bad
from the start,” said Coach
Dennis Stefani, noting that
the Cardinals fumbled the
opening kickoff and imme
diately turned the ball over.
“ It didn’t help playing in
those conditions but on that
night, they were a bigger,
faster and stronger team.”
South Wasco effec
tively shut down the Cardi
nal running game, holding
Cory Peterson to ju st 23
yards on 13 carries. On the
flip side, the Redsides aver
aged just under 10 yards per
carry en route to 339 yards
on the ground.
The Cardinals actu
ally had the edge in passing
y ardage. RJ R am os was
9-15 for 96 yards with two
interceptions and one touch
down. The Redsides tallied
73 passing yards.
“ O ur h ead s w ere
hanging a little bit at half
time,” said Stefani “but we
told the kids to try to look at
every bit of the game and try
to figure out what is going
w rong." He was encouraged
that the Cards decided to use
the second half as a learning
experience. “ We came out
o f the locker-room w ith our
heads up.”
The Cards next op
ponent will be Arlington at
lone this Thursday night at
7 p.m.

Lady Cards volleyball takes three league wins
The lone Lady Car
dinals reversed their volley
ball fortunes last week, win
ning three league matches.
The Cards traveled
to A rlington on Tuesday,
taking down the Lady Honk
ers in a five game match

Cards were led by Brianna
Peterson and Beth Morter
with six kills each. Tyree
Svetich added five.

but came out strong in the
third game and didn’t look
back,” said Coach Dawn
Eynetich.
T h e L ad y C a rd s

day, making the road trip
to Maupin to take on South
Wasco County. The Lady
Cards finished off the Lady
Redsides in three games,

Tyree Svetich led
the team at the service line,
again making 100% o f her
serves (14-14) w ith tw o
aces.
“ We wanted to take
this match in three games
and that’s what we did,” said
Coach Eynetich. “ We have
really been working on our
serves and it shows.”
A league rem atch
with Echo resulted in a three
game win for lone 25-18,
25-19,25-9.
Senior Captain, Ti-
ana C am arillo, noted the
positive outcome was more
than skin deep. “We got off
to a slow start this season but
w e're finally becoming the
team we know we are. We
are starting to execute from

DO-IT-YOURSELF INVESTMENT
Don’t assume that all real
estate investments are multi
million dollar deals bought
and managed by others, then
packaged for a limited partner
ship or stock. There are, what
we call, do-it-yourself invest
ments: Properties that are
brought and managed directly
by you. Many investors start
this way and do very well at
it. The simplest do-it-yourself
investment is a second home,
either for a combination vaca-
tion/rental property or exclu
sively for rental purposes. This
could be a house, or, increas-
ingly, a condominium.
Tenants will usually cover
maintenance expenses, and
if you have thought through
your purchase with rental in
mind, the income you get will
be sufficient to cover your debt
serve. You should get a reason
able tax-deferred cash flow,
possibly some extra tax losses,
and the potential for significant
increase in value. It’s easier
to get into the single family
investment market because so
many more o f these units are
available. It's also faster and
simpler to get out.
