The Pioneer Memo­
rial Hospital Foundations
has announced its scholar­
ship awards for the coming
year.
Dr. Wallace Wolff,
who was long time doctor
in the area, had a scholar­
ship founded by his family.
This year the award goes
to Trisha Adams who is in
her fourth year of medical
school at OHSU. The award
was for $1,500. Trisha is a
graduate of Heppner High
School and is the daughter
of Mike and Tonia Adams.
First year awards to
students who wish to work
towards a career in a health
care related field were each
awarded $350.
Whitney Matthews
plans to pursue a career in
radiology and is enrolled
at Boise State University.
Whitney will be an honor
graduate of Heppner High
School and is the daughter
of Skip and Sandy Mat­
thews.
Ben McCarl has cho­
sen to pursue a career as a
lab tech. Ben has enrolled at
BMCC to start his studies in
this field. He will graduate
from Heppner High School
and is the son of Lee McCarl
and Leah Hyatt.
Sonja Bradley will
attend BMCC to pursue
a career in nursing. Sonja
will graduate from River­
side High School and is the

Davis G ordanier
will attend Eastern Wash­
ington University and major
in nursing program. He will
graduate from Irrigon High
School and is the son of
Gary and Mari Gordanier.
Laura Montes will
attend Eastern Washington
University and major in
nursing. Laura will gradu­
ate as an honor student from
Irrigon High School and is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Fausto Montes.

attend Oregon Institute of
Technology for a degree in
medical imaging technol­

The Heppner Garden Club has purchased a book­
case to store all scrapbooks made by lone and Heppner
clubs. They are well done and have so much information
about the goings on during the years. These scrapbooks
can be found at City Hall and may be checked out.

Staff Awards Reception
this month for outstanding
achievement at the Univer­
sity of Idaho. Jepsen is the
primary computer program-
mer/developer for engineer­
ing outreach, the graduate
distance-education arm of
the College of Engineering.
He was nominated by his
co-workers and supervisor
Heather Erin Davis of Heppner and Bran-
dCfli Jacob Hendricks of Heppner announce their
engagement and upcoming wedding.
Heather is the daughter of Ted and Mary
Ann Davis of Heppner. She is a graduate of Hep­
pner High School. She is currently employed at
Pioneer Memorial Clinic in Heppner.
Brandon is the son of Mike Hendricks of
Clatskanie and Chris Catrain of Femdale, WA.
He is a graduate of Clatskanie High School. He
is currently employed at P.G.E. in Boardman.
The wedding will take place on June 21,
2008 at Anson Wright Park.

Laurie Lindsay Mur­
ray of Heppner has accepted
membership in The National
Society of Collegiate Schol­
ars (NSCS). She will be
honored during an induction
convocation this fall on the
campus of Oregon State
University.
Laurie is finishing
her sophomore year in pre­
pharmacy program. She has
already been pre-admitted to
the professional pharmacy

Bill and Nancy Jepsen of
Heppner. He and his wife
and two children live in
Moscow, ID. Matt graduated
from U of I in 2003, and he
has been working for the
college ever since.

Jepsen of lone has been
selected as a member of
the 2008 Silver Cortege for
Central’s 117th commence­
ment on Saturday, June 7 in
Ellensburg.
The Silver Cortege,
which leads the procession
of graduates into commence-
ment, consists of a select
group of junior students who
have achieved academic
excellence at CWU. Each
student is chosen based on
grade point average and
must have completed 75
credits.

Heppner Garden Club announces
time change for meeting
The Heppner Garden Club will meet at 1 p.m. on
Monday, June 2 at Les Paustian’s home at 340 Barratt
Street, right across from the tennis courts. Due to limited
parking, it is suggested that those attending car pool.
The program is how to make a birdbath from rhu­
barb leaves. Hostesses will be JoAnne Burleson and Eve
Ironhawk. The public is welcome to attend.

The 2008 Celebrate
Heppner Days dessert con­
test will beheld June 13-14.
All entries will be auctioned
off at 6 p.m. on June 14 at
City Park as a fundraiser for
the Heppner Chamber of
Commerce.
Entry forms can
be picked up at the Hep­
pner Chamber. The contest
is open to the public and
desserts should be entered

are renewable if the student
meets foundation criteria
and remains in a health care
field. The foundation board
of directors was very im­
pressed with the quality of
all candidates and wishes
each of them the very best
in their future.

Medicine degree
Kevin Graham Scott
will receive a Doctor of
Dental Medicine degree on
Tuesday, June 3 from OHSU
in Portland.
Kevin is the son
of Alan and Debbie Scott
of Heppner. He is a 1994
graduate of Heppner High
School, a 1999 graduate of
Eastern Oregon University,
and a 2004 graduate of Port­
land State University.
Kevin and his family
plan to go to Montana and
enter into private practice.

Valby’s confirma­
tion students recently as­
sembled 20 health kits from
items donated by church
members. Health kits are
sent to Lutheran World Re­
lief for meeting the imme­
diate needs of those who
face natural disasters and
displacement due to war.
The need is urgent. More
information about preparing
and sending health kits is
