Spray Rodeo and Eastern Oregon
Half-Marathon to be held May 24-25
The 6 1 “ annual
Spray Rodeo will be held
M ay 24th and 25th along
with the 44th annual eastern
Oregon Half-Marathon on
May 24th.
The popular Eastern
Oregon Half-Marathon, the
longest running in the state,
is a 13.2 mile run from Ser
vice Creek to Spray. The
half-marathon will begin at
8 a.m. Water will be avail
able at several locations
along the way and the race
will end in front o f the Spray
School.
Saturday and Sun
day morning there will be
a “Buckeroo Breakfast” at
the school cafeteria from
early morning to 11 a.m.
and will be prepared by the
Spray High School Athletic
programs and their parents.
Proceeds will help to pay for
their athletic activities.
The parade will be
gin at 11 a.m. at the Spray
General Store, and will be
led by Queen Sara Holbrook
from Spray and local World
War 11 veterans.
The rodeo will fea
ture contestants from all
over the Northwest who are
members o f the Northwest
P ro fe ssio n a l R odeo A s
sociation, Idaho Cowboys
Association, and Pro West
P ro fe ssio n a l R odeo A s
sociation. The events will
begin with the mutton bust
ing at 12:30 p.m. and the
grand entry at 1 p.m. This
year, for the first time, the
slack will be held at 1 p.m.
on Friday, May 23. There
is no admission charge and
there will be concessions on
the grounds.
The rodeo will fea
ture bareback riding, calf
roping, breakaway roping,
saddle bronc riding, steer
w restling, barrel racing,
team roping, wild cow milk
ing, and bull riding. New
this year there will be ranch
bronc riding. There will be
mutton busting and a pig
scramble for the kids. Also,
there will be four races, a
V* mile kids, women’s, and
m en ’s race and a V* mile
relay race.
The stock will be
furnished by 2007 stock

Six local World War
II veterans will be honored
as grand marshals for the
Spray Rodeo. They will be
escorted by military drivers
in hum vees on Saturday,
May 24 in the parade and
grand entry at the rodeo.
They are:

Southern Italy. His 15th mis
sion proved to be a disaster
when his plane was hit and
he bailed out, sustaining a

Payton Jayde Herbison - Brittney Herbison of
Heppner announces the birth o f her daughter, Payton Jayde
Herbison, on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at St. Anthony’s
Hospital in Pendleton.
At birth, Payton weighed eight pounds, five ounces
and was 20 inches in length.
Grandparents are Keith and Reica Herbison o f
Heppner. Great-grandparents are Judy Bales o f Springfield
and John and Margaret Herbison of Redmond. Uncle is
Brock Herbison o f Heppner.
The Heppner Drama Club will give a slide show presentation on their recent trip to New York
City on Sunday, May 25, at 6:30 p.m. in the gym at the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Students
that went on the trip will present the program. Everyone is welcome to attend this free event.
